An iPod for Every Occasion

The Apple iPod is currently 'the' gadget to have. Here is how to find an iPod to suit your needs.

Ever since the Apple iPod made its debut in the market, there has been no stopping this pint-sized wonder. All over the world, you will come across people with the distinctive white earphones, grooving to their favourite beats. However, buying an iPod can be a confusing task. There is a variety of models available, each one with its own distinctive features. Read on for some tips to go about finding an iPod, which is best suited for you.

Looking for Storage?

If you are the type of person who likes to have your entire media collection with you, go for the iPod classic. The classic comes in both 80-GB and 160-GB models and is perfect for storing all your videos and songs. With a 160-GB model, you can store up to 200 hours of video or 2,500 hours of CD quality music. The iPod classic is able to store so much data because it has a built-in hard drive. Along with its storage capacity, this model has a battery with a long life. A fully charged battery has a playback time of 40 hours of audio or 7 hours of video.

Looking for Style?

If you want an iPod that will make you stand out in a crowd, then the iPod touch is perfect for you. This is the latest model available and is modelled on another popular Apple product, the iPhone. This model has a maximum of 16 GB embedded flash memory. Flash memory is different from a hard drive in that it has no moving parts and is hence less likely to suffer from mechanical defects. The iPod touch is only available in black though.

Looking for Convenience?

If you want to take your iPod with you wherever you go, you will be looking for something small and lightweight. No model is heavy as such but smaller models are definitely more convenient. The nano is the smallest model with a screen and has a maximum flash-based storage capacity of 8 GB. The shuffle is the smallest of all the iPods. It has a storage capacity of 1 GB, which is just about enough for around 250 songs. The shuffle does not support video files.

Since both models have flash memory, they do not skip if the player is moving. This makes these models a good choice for a person who uses them while performing physical activity. The iPod can be used while you jog or work out at the gymnasium. Both iPods can easily be placed in the pocket of your jeans or clipped onto your belt. The only drawback is that you may forget you have it with you and wind up sitting on it.

Looking for Online Access?

As of now, the iPod touch is the only model that offers you a chance to browse the Internet. This model has wireless connectivity. This allows you to connect to the Internet using any open Wi-Fi hotspot in the area. The iPod touch also has a built-in Safari web browser and a virtual keyboard. This turns your iPod into a smaller version of a laptop. The iPod touch also has widgets. These are shortcuts to your favourite sites. For example, one widget takes you to the popular video sharing site YouTube. Another one allows you to access the iTunes store. This is an online store run by Apple, which lets you purchase music and download it directly to your iPod.

No matter what your needs are, you will be able to find an iPod to suit your preferences. Once you have decided on a particular model, the only thing left is for you to relax and enjoy music and movies on your very own iPod.
