Is your kid a Harry Potter fan? Even if he/she is not, then also you could start by giving these books and I am sure he/she will get hooked to the books. Kids love the whole Harry Potter series. The first book is a good one and my daughter enjoyed a lot and sure your kid will love the magic and humor and suspense
