SIDS is a major cause of infant mortality. Is there any way that i can prevent it? when can I start letting my baby sleep in a cot with a bumper? Need urgent parenting advice.
SIDS can be prevented by taking adequate precautions. Make sure the baby sleeps on the back with face uncovered. Only use a lightweight blanket for additional warmth and if it is possible, tuck blankets under the mattress.
Soft bedding such as pillows and bumpers increase the risk of sudden infant death. They may cover the baby’s face and obstruct breathing or cause overheating. It is safer to wait until the child starts to sleep in a bed before introducing a pillow or other soft bedding.
It is better to never leave the baby unattended. If leaving unattended, then ensure that the blankets are tucked in so as to prevent overheating and suffocation.
