    Why is it necessary to take iron supplements during pregnancy? Which complications can be caused due to iron deficiency during pregnancy? Which iron-rich foods should be consumed by pregnant woman?

    It is important for a pregnant women to have iron incorporated in her daily diet. Iron is very important for haemoglobin which is a protein in the red blood cells which carry oxygen to other cells.

    Iron is an important component of myoglobin which is a protein which that helps supply oxygen to the muscles. Collagen is a protein in the bone and iron is the main component and many other enzymes.

    Hi all, iron is needed in pregnancy as it helps to maintain a healthy immune system and also in pregnancy the amount of blood level is increased, about 50 percent more blood than regular, so more iron is needed to make haemoglobin about 50 percent more.

    Hi all, the doctor say that iron is very essential requirement of the body. A pregnant mother needs extra iron for the placenta and the growing baby. Iron requirement is increased in the second and the third trimester. There aremany women who require due to deficiency.

    Hello, iron is very important as deficiency of iron can cause anemia. Anemia in pregnancy can cause preterm labour and the baby born can have low birth weight and can also cause infant mortality. It is important that a pregnant women intakes 27 milligrams of iron daily.

    There are various sources of iron available. Red meat has been considered as one of the best sources of iron for pregnant women. You can eat lean meat and also eat vegetables, legumes and grains which are equally rich in iron.

    Iron is also available in two forms namely non-heme iron and heme iron. Non-heme iron can be found in plants, poultry, eggs and fish. Heme iron can be found in animal products. Heme iron is considered to be absorbed easily by the body.

    There are various sources of heme iron like red meat, fish and poultry. You can have lean meat like turkey, chicken, chicken breast and pork. In vegetables you can eat lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, oatmeal and cereals.
