5 Healthy Jaggery Recipes for Children
Jaggery is healthier than sugar. Including jaggery in the diet of children can provide many health benefits to them. Have a quick look at the five great jaggery recipes for children right away.

Is your child always hungry asking for new dishes to eat every day? Jaggery is a great alternative to sugar. You can prepare healthy jaggery dishes once in a while for a change.

Jaggery Recipes for Children

Here are five interesting recipes made using jaggery which are easy to prepare and healthy to eat for children.

Flattened Rice (Poha) with Jaggery and Coconut Milk

Take one cup of flattened rice (poha). Wash it and set aside on a strainer so that all water is drained. Add 1 cup of water to grated coconut and extract the milk. Mix jaggery to the coconut milk and set aside.
Add 1 cup of water to the poha which is soaking and cook on medium flame for 2 minutes. Then add the coconut milk and jaggery mixture to the beaten rice (poha) and cook for 2 minutes.
Peel a few cardamom (elaichi) pods and powder the seeds. Add it to the cooked dish with a little salt if required. If you find the dish very thick, you can a little water. Enjoy and relish the tasty dish.

Sooji Halwa with Jaggery

Set aside a container and boil water with jaggery in that. Roast or fry the sooji in ghee till it is golden brown. Stir for around ten minutes. Then add the jaggery syrup to that and continue stirring. Let the mixture cool and your halwa is ready to eat.
This tasty dish can be prepared within a matter of minutes.

Sweet Rice with Jaggery

Meetha chawal or sweet rice with jaggery as it is popularly called is a very tasty dish. Take some rice and pressure cook it along with little water. Add some jaggery which has been dissolved in water with some oil.
Garnish with cardamom, raisins, and peanuts. This is a very popular dish in South India. It’s also given as ‘Prasad’ in several temples. It’s a great change for your child.

Puffed Rice Balls with Jaggery

Dissolve some jaggery in water. You can use a potato masher to break the lumps of jaggery. Heat it for around 2 minutes.
Next take a blob of jaggery syrup from the container, mix puffed rice into it and start rolling the mixture into balls. Use a little bit of the hot jaggery syrup while mixing the puffed rice with it for rolling several puffed rice balls. Make sure that the mixture is not too hot to avoid burning your hands while rolling the balls. Apply some ghee to your hands so that it is easier to roll the mixture into balls. Store in an airtight container and eat whenever you want.
This dish is made during the Tamil festival of ‘kartigai. Many South Indian households prepare this dish during the month of Kartigai. Puffed rice is known as ‘Kurmura’ in other Indian languages.

Jaggery Roti or Paratha or Bhakri

Take some wheat flour, jaggery, cardamom, almonds, ghee and salt. Knead the dough using wheat flour with the help of some warm water and add a little salt along with ghee to the dough. Let the dough ferment for around 20 minutes. Make a mixture of almond powder and cardamom powder along with jaggery and mix well.
Add the stuffing to the Rotis and heat the Tawa and start roasting some Rotis, jaggery Parathas are ready to serve.

Importance of Jaggery for the Human Body

As per Ayurveda, jaggery is extremely good for the body. It has several medicinal properties unlike sugar which just contains plenty of calories. You can even give your child milk with jaggery which is very good. Jaggery can be used to substitute sugar in children’s milk. It is a great digestive aid and sweetens food in a healthy manner. Children also enjoy the taste of jaggery in food.
Some other good jaggery recipes for children include jaggery methi roti with Til and Gajak. Jaggery is very tasty and many sweet dishes can prepared using jaggery. Methi rotis prepared with jaggery and Til turn out to be extremely tasty. So prepare the above tasty dishes with jaggery for your kid and watch him or her relish and enjoy the food.
