Top 10 Nutritious Finger Foods for Kids

Including finger foods in the diet of kids is one of the best ways to include healthy food stuffs in their diet. Have a quick look at the top 10 nutritious finger foods for kids.

Every parent has complained about their kid’s picky eating habits at some point of the time. Here are 10 finger food ideas that are healthy and kid friendly.

1. Cheese Toast

Some melted cheese on a toast sprinkled over with a few bits of oregano can make a perfect snack for your kid. Se ketchup and cut fresh veggies innovatively to make animal faces on the toast. Your kid is going to love it.

2. Mini Burgers

Make your own mini burgers at home by using grilled meat, whole grain bread, cheese and some lettuce. Sneak in some veggies as well as your kid is going to be so thrilled at being served a burger he or she will not notice the ingredients much.

3. Fruit Skewers

Red strawberry, yellow papaya piece and a grape all pierced with a toothpick and offered with caramel sauce. What could possibly attract your kid more than this red and yellow bright fruity combination? Get your kid to eat all the fruits you want this way.

4. Half Egg Tarts

The sliced egg has always been more attractive to kids because of the yellow and white combination. Put in a bit of cheese and a cherry on top to make it look more attractive and serve it to your kid as a tart. This dish is guaranteed to get good reception from children.

5. Veggie Bites

Kids are generally not fond of vegetables but a good way to make them eat veggies is to make crispy veggie bites. Simply mash up the vegetables in a food processor and shape them into stars or hearts after coating them with arrowroot and shallow fry them in oil (grilling is a better option). This is a great way to sneak in vegetables in your child’s diet.

6. Tortilla Pizza Slices

Tortillas can make instant delicious bases for pizzas as they instantly turn crisp when placed in an oven. Small kids love tortillas as they are crisp to eat and thin. Top up the tortilla slices with veggies, chicken and egg cubes and mozzarella. This healthy and tasty tortilla pizza slice will leave your kids craving for more.

7. Tiny Meatballs

Roll up brown bread into small round pits and stuff them with minced meat. You can use ground chicken, red meat or mashed liver too. Now grill the meatballs after topping them with herbs and cheese and serve them in a colourful plate.

8. Lemon and Mint Cupcakes

If you are fond of baking then you could try your hand at making some cupcakes for your little ones. Instead of sugary store brought flavours try flavouring the cupcakes with honey, mint and real citrus extract. The zing of the citrus fruit will add a lovely twist to the cupcakes. These cupcakes would be great for a children’s birthday party too.

9. Veggie Skewers

Soak the cut veggies like tomatoes and capsicum in vinaigrette as these releases the hidden flavours and accentuates the sweetness in vegetables. Tomatoes, capsicum, broccoli, beans...basically you can make your kids eat all the vegetables you want by presenting them attractively and dipping them in sauce of their choice.

10. Fish Fingers

The world’s favourite finger food can be made kid friendly by coating the cut fish fillets into bite sized pieces and coating them with rice Krispies or cornflakes. Make up an exciting dip like mint yoghurt or lemon mayonnaise and serve the fish fingers piping hot. Homemade fish fingers are healthy, tasty and non messy and will soon be a favourite of your kids.
Now that you know these 10 finger licking finger foods you can go ahead and try out a new recipe everyday to surprise your kids.
