Infertility Treatments

Infertility can be male infertility or female infertility. Infertility can be due to many factors. The treatment for infertility depends upon the conditions and causative factors. Treatment options for infertility are many and they are based on the results of blood and hormonal tests. Treatment of infertility is possible with the help of medicines, surgery or other assisted methods. Let us study in detail about the treatment options for infertility. 


The possible treatment for infertility can be as varied as the number of causes that causes infertility. Although there are certain specific common reasons but treatment depends on respective subjectivity of the problem. Conditions, their causes and methods to overcome vary from individual to individual according to the specific overall health status and lifestyle of the person.

With the rapid and dramatic advancement of medical science, reproductive technology has gone a major transformation within the past few years. What was seemingly impossible sometime back is readily possible today. That is why a lot many couples are able to attain the joy of parenthood in spite of initial infertility issues.


Treatments for Infertility

Depending on the condition and requirement, infertility treatment can comprise of any or combination of the following:

  1. Medicinal drugs, to be taken either orally or injected through shots

  2. Surgeries
  3.  
  4. Artificial insemination in its varied forms

Basically it is found that in most of the cases, successful pregnancy results from an effective combination of two or more methods. While deciding on a fertility treatment course, the following are the principal factors that the doctors take into consideration:

  • Several blood and hormonal test reports
  •   
  • The time period that the couple has spent in trying to attain pregnancy
  •  
  • The age and overall health condition of both the partners
  •  
  • If the partner have any individual preference


Infertility Treatments for Men

Infertility in men is usually treated in the following ways:


If the Condition is Sexually Problems :
The problem can either be due to impotence or related to ejaculation. There are a number of ways to treat impotence after ascertain the exact reasons responsible for impotence. The factors are then treated individually and the concentration lies on whether the man will at all be able to produce healthy sperms that can fertilize the egg.

If the problem is related to ejaculation there are several factors that the doctor needs to take into account. Most of the times it has been observed that ejaculation problem is more psychological than physiological. Deciding on the condition, the doctor prescribes a medical treatment or suggests behavioral therapy which can also be combined with certain medicines for effective results.


If the Sperm is Very Low :
Most of the times this infertility conditions are effectively treated through specific surgeries as it the sperm pathway that gets blocked and it is corrected through a surgery. In certain situations where the doctor feels that a surgery may not be effective, he can collect the sperm from the male reproductive tract directly and then transplant it in the uterus of the woman to fertilize her egg.

Sperm count can also fall due to certain infections. These are generally treated through antibiotics.


If the Problem Lies With the Movement of the Sperm :
At times it is found that the semen of the man does not carry any sperm. This is usually due to a blockage of the system. Surgery is the only way to clear the tract and correct the problem.  


Infertility Treatments for Women

Apart from issues where surgery is required, it is found that most infertile women suffer from some kind of ovulation problem. There can be different facets to it, depending on the cause and are accordingly treated.

A woman can be infertile due to ovulation disorder. Doctors treat this issue by prescribing Clomid or clomiphene citrate. It triggers the ovulation process by acting on the pituitary gland. This medicine is effective for women suffering from PCOS too.

Ovulation is hampered if the gonadotropin hormone levels fall. In these cases, hMG or human menopausal gonadotropin is injected to act on the pituitary gland so that it stimulates the ovulation process.

FSH or follicle stimulating hormone is another in the line that is administered when the ovulation is abnormal due to a problem in the follicles.

In fertility cases where the ovulation happen but is not regular, Gn-RH analog or gonadotropin releasing hormone is injected or sprayed through the nose during the expected ovulation period so that the pituitary gland becomes aware of the time.

Sometimes a high level of prolactin, the milk producing hormone can hinder the ovulation process. This can be treated through the administration of Bromocriptine or Parlodel.

my doctor advised me for semen culture. it was found that i had a bacterial infection which was the root cause of infertility. I was on antibiotics and have completed the course. i have still not been able to get my wife pregnant. does it mean that i am still infertile. what could be the cause.
