In what conditions
is there an imbalance in F.S.H.
Hormone studies may indicate that
there is an imbalance in the output of your pituitary hormones, with an
excessively high L.H. and normal F.S.H. level. This disproportionately
high L.H. to F.S.H. ratio may be associated with oligomenorrhoea or even
amenorrhoea. The commonest condition in which it occurs is polycystic ovarian disease.
When is pure F.S.H
prescribed
The obvious treatment to restore
the hormone balance to normal is to give additional F.S.H. In nearly one
third of cases, clomiphene serves to stimulate the pituitary gland to release
its own stores of F.S.H., and this may be all the treatment that is required.
However, should this fail, your specialist may decide that treatment with
Metrodin is indicated.
How is pure F.S.H.
administered
Metrodin consists of pure F.S.H.
- each ampoule containing 75 international units of F.S.H. alone. The pre-treatment
work up and monitoring are identical to those described for Pergonal. The
administration of Metrodin is also by injection, being given on alternate
days until an adequate response has been observed.
