Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My sister has been having intense pains in her chest area since her delivery. She has never had anything like it before. The pains are there for a while (10-15 mins). What is causing this? The doctor checked her blood pressure and it was at first low, but now it is normal. At the moment she is taking Anxol-5. However, this is not a permanent solution. Please suggest something to cure this.
Shama (Noida, India)

A: From the information it is not really possible to make an accurate diagnosis. I would recommend that you consult a gynaecologist and a cardiologist for the same. She needs to be properly examined and her history should be taken into account.

Q: After my delivery, I have been having severe wrist pain and cramps in my legs. Why is this happening? How can it be cured?
Samantha (London, UK)

A: Please get your serum calcium levels done and consult a doctor for the pains.

Q: I had a C-section 4 yrs ago, and have been getting a severe backache since then. If I try any form of exercise, it gets worst. What should I do? I apply cream and keep a hot water bag. If I conceive again, will my second child also be a caesarean?
Anjana (Vancouver, Canada)

A: See an orthopaedic doctor for your backache. Don’t wear high heels. The mode of delivery of the 2nd baby will be dependent on the reason for C-Section in the first delivery.

Q: I delivered last year. A few months after delivery I started getting a backache. If I sleep on my back and want to change position, I can't turn immediately because of this stiffness in my back. Of late I have also been experiencing pain in my joints. I am worried. What should I do?
Jamina (Reston, USA)

A: Did you take any injection in the back? If not, you can try taking calcium supplements. I would advise you to visit your doctor.

Q: I had a caesarean operation 7 months ago. I am suffering from severe back pain, mainly in my lower back. What can I do to make my back stronger?
Chhaya (Dubai, UAE)

A: Have analgesics and calcium supplements. Drink 1 glass of milk daily. Add fenugreek (Methi) to wheat while making wheat flour. (1 large spoon: 1 kilo) Use this flour for making roti. Same can be given to other members of your family. Proper posture while sitting, standing or getting up is also important.
