Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My daughter was active and talketive. But as and as she is growing older, she is becoming very shy, specially in school. The reason could also be because she knows only her native language. She plays with other kinds, but does not communicate much. We will be shifting to Atlanta next year. I am worried if she will be able to pick up the english out there.
Jyoti (Delhi, India)

A: Children are great learners. They pick up things very fast. Do not worry. Start speaking to your child in English, and familiarise her with the language.

Q: My son is very shy and gets bullied very easily by other children. He does not mix up much and is very tender. How can I make him brave and participative as he does not participate in any activity?
Seema (Elgin, USA)

A: Children at this age are usually shy. Once they are 5 or 6 they will get bolder, and will seek constant attention. Don’t do anything now. Be supportive and be kind. That is what he expects from you. If you too start pushing him much, he might not feel confident with you. Just leave him alone. He will soon grow out of it. Identify his skills and help him inculcate them. You can even have a word with his teachers in the nursery, so they can also encourage and praise him before other children - which might make him more confident. Be positive. Never criticise him.
