Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My daughter has congenital hypothyroidism. She has been taking Eltroxin. How do I make sure that the disease has not affected her physical and mental growth?
Kruthi (Chennai, India)

A: You do not have to worry. As long as you are giving the medicines your child will be OK. You need to be in touch with a child psychologist who will assess her IQ. Your paediatrician will check thyroid hormone levels and bone age every year to keep you apprised of her progress. Based on the progress, her drug dosages will be adjusted.
