Diana (LA, USA)

A: Stop shaving your underarms and stick to waxing. Wax very regularly. Your underarms will gradually regain their natural colour.
Vidula Chopra

Q: Ok, well I have very sweaty armpits even when i m just sitting ther and its been like this for a while but i m embarassed to tell anyone and no deo i m using seems to work and I dont want my friends to notive.
Kelsey (CA, USA)

A: Deodorants don't help that much. Apply an anti-perspirant stick like Secret or Dove. These are very effective. However, they are not available in India. You could ask someone to bring it from you from abroad, or buy it from a shop that stocks imported goods. Also, make it a point to always keep your underarms hair-free.

Q: I have a problem. i am 16 years old and sometimes i have alot of underarm wetness. Even though i put on deodarant, i will still sweat and it looks really bad. please help me!
Anonymous (LA, USA)

A: Wax your underarm hair regularly. Also, make sure you apply powder daily. Instead of applying deodorant, apply an 'anti-persirant' stick. Secret works really well so you should to give it a shot.
Vidula Chopra

Q: Hi, I have been tweezing my armpit because i hate shaving and waxing now i have bumps how do i get rid of them? Thank you Glory
Grace (CA, USA)

A: Try and tweeze with the help of an epilator. Scrub your underarms gently with a pumic stone daily, when taking a shower. This will be of some help in the case of in-growths. Also, try applying anti-fungal powder. But if nothing helps, you should consider switching to waxing.
Vidula Chopra

Q: My armpits sweat a lot n odours too even in the coldest month. And I have tried the whole lot of deodrants and talcum powders and other home remedies. But nothing has worked yet. Could u pl suggest me what to do . Please.
Shilpy (Mumbai, India)

A: Remove hair from your armpits regularly, and always apply an anti-perpirant. Deodorants don't always help, but roll-on anti-persipirants help. Try Secret, which may be available in imported stores. Also, Rexona advertises an anti-perspirant spray, which seems to be effective. Try that too. Never spray perfume directly in your underarm region.

Q: Sweat Extensively in the underarm area even in cool temperatures i don't really want to wax my armpit becasue of me being a male...Please help in any way.
Travis (Newyork, USA)

A: Anti-perspirant sticks help prevent underarm odour. You could powder your underarms after taking a shower, but nothing is as effective as anti-perspirants. Instead of waxing your underarms, you could consider shaving them. Many men shave their armpits regularly.
Vidula Chopra

Q: I sweat a lot in underarms. They stay extremely warm. I sweat a lot only in underarms if I am hyper or nervous. They are also dark and so I avoid using deos. I use anti fungal powder. The darkness is not because of hair growth. Is there anyway to lessen sweat and lighten the color of underarms.
Sonia (New Delhi, India)

A: You could try scrubbing a pumice stone to your underarms daily while showering, to get rid of dead skin. Also, bleaching underarms should help lighten them. Shaving causes underarms to darken so if you shave, stop, and wax instead.
Vidula Chopra

Q: I have this knot under my arm where I put deodorant and 2 days ago I noticed like a little bruise of some sort. Its very very painful and its all swollen. Do you know what it might be?
Erica (LA USA)

A: It could simply be that some tissues have gotten swollen. Swellings can also be caused by ingrown hair or by oily hair glands, or by some infection. If the swelling doesn't go away on its own within a couple of weeks, you may want to see a doctor.

Q: Dear Vidula, I am 22yrs of age/female.I want to knopw that how do i get rid of smelly sweat, as i apply all good antiperspirant after bath, and exactly after a short time i start sweating and tghis gives a diryt smell. How do iget reduce this foul smell as at times i cant even stand around people, the smell is that bad. I do wax my undrearms, use johnsons baby soap,fa antiperspirant, but when i use the doe i feel scratchy in that area. Kindly suggest some inexpensive remedy for this
Aarti (Mumbai, India)

A: Change your anti-perspirant. Use a roll-on stick (not a roll-on liquid). Make sure you wash your clothes after every wear, because the smell always lingers on your clothes. Carry a perfume with you and spray it on through the day. Never spray perfume on your underarms. There is no home remedy to reduce the amount you sweat. Use a stronger soap like Dettol on your underarm region.

Q: Whenever I shave my arms I always get big, big goosebumps on my arms and it looks horrible. They look like big holes. What shall I do?
Sonia (Mumbai, India)

A: Why don't you try another method of hair removal like waxing. Apply moisturiser after shaving as shaving dries the skin. Also, apply a soothing lotion after you shave or wax like lacto calamine. Applying ice helps as well. Perhaps your skin is just very sensitive.

Q: Dear mam, i started waxing my under arms i used to do it self i have a doubt in which direction should i pull the hair, after waxing can i use lemon over there plz help
Madhu (Mumbia, India)

A: Pull in the direction opposite to hair growth. So if hair is growing downwards, pull in an upward direction. It is perfectly safe to put lemon on your underarms, but do so after a while, not immediately after waxing.
Vidula Chopra

Q: How can u prevent a really sweaty armpits..
Marielle (Goa, India)

A: Make sure you remove hair from armpits regularly. Apply an anti-perspirant, and apply powder regularly to your armpits. The key is not to prevent sweating at all, but to prevent smell from your armpits.
Vidula Chopra

Q: I have a very dark armpits and this is very distressing. I have tried many products like bleaching and also whitening cream but the problem has not resolved.By the way I don't shave my underarms,i wax them instead. Could you please recommend some products or techniques for sloving this problem? Thank you.
Meena (Mumbai, India)

A: Is the skin dark? At times, armpits appear dark because hair-growth is visible through the skin of fair women, a few days after waxing. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do, as you would just have to wait for the hair to grow a suffecient length, before you can wax it off once again. Dark armpits could also be caused due to excessive sweating in the underarm region. Use an anti-perspirant, and apply an anti-fungal powder to your underarm region. Change your clothes as soon as you reach home, especially if they have sweat on the underarm region. Make sure you keep your underarms clean, and wax them regularly. Scrub the underarm area well while bathing, and wipe the area with a wet towel or tissue a couple of times a day, whenever you get the chance. Do you wear tight sari blouses often? If yes, try switching to loose salwar kameezes. Avoid wearing synthetic fabrics near your underarm region.

Q: I have dark underarms cos i used to use hair removing cream. now i wax regularly but is still dark. please help. Can't wear short sleeve.thanx
Deepthi (Mumbai, India)

A: Your underarms will lighten over time. Be patient. Don't use hair removal creams again and don't shave your underarms. Keep waxing them regularly.
Vidula Chopra

Q: I pluck my underarm hair at home and I have dark underarms. Does plucking darken my armpits?
Claire (USA)

A: No, plucking does not darken underarms. Avoid applying scented powders on your underarms, instead, apply anti-fungal powder. It is possible that you were born with dark underarms and there is little you can do. Bleach the area.
Vidula Chopra

Q: I am 22 years old.I have dark underarms because i used to apply a hair removal cream around 6 years back. Please suggest some way to remove the blackness. Also, is there a way to remove hair around the nipples? Please give a swift response.
Roohi (Mumbai, India)

A: Roohi, you could snip off the hair from your nipples, or just leave it alone. It is not recommended that you wax this area, and you should definitely not use hair-removal cream on your nipples. Do not apply anti-perspirants to your underarm area, use anti-fungal powder. Wax your underarms, do not shave them as they are turning black, and do NOT use hair removal cream on your underarms.
Vidula Chopra

Q: Its very dark under my arm ,how to lighten it? i shave twice a week.
Yousra (Mumbai, India)

A: Avoid shaving your underarms. Shaving only removes the hair growing above the skin, and the hair under the skin shows through transparent skin, making underarms look dark. Switch to waxing your underarms instead, as waxing removes the hair from the root.
Vidula Chopra

Q: My underarms is dark.I feel bit embrassed.
Vidya (Banglore, India)

A: Are you fair? Armpits appear dark because hair-growth after waxing is visible under the skin of fair women. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do. Wait for the hair to grow a sufficent length before you can wax it again.
Dark armpits could also be caused due to excessive sweating in the underarm region. Perhaps you are allergic to a particular anit-persirant or deodorant? Try applying an anti-fungal powder to your underarm region.
Change your clothes as soon as you reach home, especially if they have sweat on the underarm region.
Make sure you keep your underarms clean, and wax them regularly. Don't shave.
Avoid wearing synthetic fabrics near your underarm region.

Q: How can i get rid of dark elbows, underarms and knees?
Uma (India)

A: Take a lemon slice and rub it on your elbows and knees for around five minutes, everyday. This should help lighten them. Do not apply anti-perspirants to your underarm area, use anti-fungal powder. Wax your underarms, do not shave them, and do NOT use hair removal cream. Read this article for more information on taking care of your elbows.

Q: My underarms have turned black due to constant use of deos and antiperspirants. How do i get rid of the dark patches?
Neha (Mumbai, India)

Q: Shall I just cut a lemon in half and rub it on my underarms or is there some other way to use it
Shabana (Mumbai, India)

A: Are your underarms dark? If yes, applying lemon should help. Also, don't shave or apply hair removal cream to your underarms. Wax them regularly and apply anti-fungal, non-scented powder to your underarms. Wear cotton clothes in the summer, and avoid synthetics.
Vidula Chopra
