Dyslexia is not a new problem with kids. It has been there for a long time and it is only but great that parents and teachers are now increasingly becoming aware of it. This is great for the betterment for the affected kids as they get a chance to excel in studies along with their kids of their age. After you learn about the signs and symptoms of dyslexia in a child and if you observe such signs in your child, you need to confirm with by consulting an expert on such issues. Early intervention and right management is extremely important for helping dyslexic kids to excel.
Today we come across a lot of dyslexic children. Contrary to the apparent belief that the number of dyslexic children has risen in the past few years, the actual fact is that the parents are now increasingly becoming aware that children are indeed suffering from this problem.
As they coming out and seeking professional help for their kids, we get to know of more cases and this has in fact helped in further research and the affected kids too are getting the much needed opportunity to lead a normal life. The best part is that they are getting better treatment opportunities.
In the earlier years, parents were unable to identify that their kids are suffering from dyslexia due to lack of awareness and in some cases it was seen that the kids too naturally outgrew the problems at a much later stage in their lives. But today since we are able to identify this as a serious problem, we are better able to say whether the kid is indeed suffering from dyslexia.
Observation is the Only Key
There are a number of ways by which you can determine whether the child is having dyslexia. For this you need to be a keen observer and interact with the child on a regular basis. As you study the behaviour, you will get to notice the behavioral discrepancies in a better way.
It is the parent who usually gets to notice the abnormal behavior, but often the teachers are the first ones who get to notice that something is amiss in the kid. This is because, the kid who is suffering from dyslexia is often found to have a normal behaviour otherwise, and only when they are engaged in learning that you get to notice that they are unable to coordinate their letters and numbers. They also show that they have a problem with directions and get confused when asked to follow a set of instructions.
How Would You Mark Dyslexia?
The first thing to note is whether the kid’s behaviour is in accordance to his age. This means that whether the kid is undergoing slow development. It is further important to note that developmental delay must not be equated with dyslexia. In situations where you are confused in identifying the two, it is advisable to seek professional help. It is rather easy to note the difference when you find that your kid’s behaviour is markedly different from the other kids of his age.
What Should You Do to Find if Your Child is Dyslexic?
Once you are ascertained that your child is suffering from dyslexia you are not only required to go for expert advice, but it is equally important that you ensure the child does not get cut off or alienated from the world around him. In most of the dyslexic cases it is found that the child is made to feel that he is seriously lacking something and this leads to a gradual and acute lack of self esteem that is extremely dangerous for the future development of the child. So all possible efforts must be made to reach out to the child and make him feel wanted and loved.
