You people are unnecessarily arguing with what that Dr.youssini said... If u go read anywhere and even the american as well as Indian or for that matter any country's pediatric association would tell you to exclusively breast feed the baby upto 6 months just to avoid possible allergies and obesity later in life. Just do your research before you accuse someone ok ladies...

Dear Arch, I can't help but feel for your baby and your family. My son was breast fed the first 2 months. Due to stress of moving to a new location, my wife stop producing milk. As a father, I was face with two choices. The choices that we have were either buy formula milk or produce our own products. Being a person who is expose to western and eastern cultures. I was exposed to the benefits and the disadvantages of both conventional and alternative medicines. Living in a polluted city in Asia, I was born with a severe case of asthma. My father was a convention doctor and refused to believe in alternative medicine so he injected me with the strongest medicine from Europe in hope of saving my life. Countless number of times my parents thoughts that was my last breath. Three years went by and I was hanging on to life. Of course the medicines only treat the symptoms but not treating the problem. Although not believing in alternative medicine, my father took me to an herbal doctor because my uncle suggested him to do that. Six months with herbal treatment, I was cured from asthma. Then, as an adult I was under a tremendous stress from my job. I did not eat right and did not get enough rest. A few years later, I have a severe case of what it seem to be eczema. I was in and out of the emergency room. Doctors prescribe drugs. I know that those medicines will damage my liver and ultimate will kill me. The conditions come and go. After three years of being in and out of the emergency room without a cure, I got fed up with medicines that only provide temporarily relief. I decided to do my own study on health and nutrition. From that knowledge, I was able to prevent and provide a cure to my body when conventional doctors could not help me. Let's get back to my son. Because of those experience and knowledge, I decided to produce my own products for my son. Since my son was 2 months old, I made my own products for my son. Now my son is 11 months, strong and healthy. He has beautiful skin and he has no allergy. Try to introduce fresh young coconut juice for your son. I am talking about the real young coconut juice in the coconut, not the one in the cans and not the preservative. You have to actually use a knife to crack this fresh young coconut juice and that is exactly what I am talking about. Tested it out first to make sure your son does not have allergy. If he does not have allergy, mix this fresh young coconut juice with breast milk. Use one fresh coconut juice per day. Also, put your son through food elimination process. For every disease there is a connection between food and bowel movement. Use only natural food for your son. I am talking about food that are grown naturally without chemical such as fungicide or pesticide. Do not feed any cans or preservative food to your son. Do some study on natural living; especially, on food, bowel movement, and how food effect skin condition. Have you ever heard of Doctor Bernard Jensen? Check it out.

i agree with dr.Gulam Younossi, MD that solids should be started only after 6months of exclusive breastfeeding.breastmilk is the mother's gift to her child..cow's milk should be given only after 1 year.many babies do well with cow's milk or any type of food given to them earier than the requried time frame ..but that is not the thing..many smokers or drunkers may say that they have no health problems..will this justify that smoking and drinking is good for health? no.. most healthy babies will eat whatever u offer, not even showing a single sign of illness..but u don't know what is happening inside the system..giving heavy loads to a tiny digestive system is not recommended..if u do this in the earlier months of his life,u will see the repercussions later on ,when he is old,not now.. so we should always follw the advices of a good doctor or research findings that are available in the internet.we should not go by what our mom or grand mom or our best friend said.our mom's or grand mom's days are over..now a days every thing is related to science.even feeding a baby is itself a science..moreover making a baby fat and plump should not be the only motive behind starting solids earlier..his whole life is lying in front of him to eat and only eat..then why be in such a hurry? i cannot understand how indiaparenting can suggest giving citrus fruits to babies below 1 year..vitamin c is found in sweet potato ,pappaya and many other baby friendly fruits..citrus fruits including tomato ,are allergenic to babies as reffered in all articles found in the internet..

Feeding and nutrition is so important in the first few months as it helps to set a healthy attitude towards food for years to come. Hence, one must consult their pediatrician before commencing on a feeding schedule. Be very careful about food allergies. Did you know that if you are breastfeeding, you must avoid all nuts especially peanuts if you have family history of any allergies? If there is a family history, then what Gulam Younossi says is true, that it is best to wait until your child is 8 months to start solids, and even then, one must proceed slowly. If there is no history of allergies, then as the women on this board have said, it is fine to start earlier, and progress as you feel your child is ready. All the best to all of you new mothers out there!

I started my child on cereals at 4months along with continuing breastfeeding. Each cereal(rice, oatmeal, and barley)given for period of three days to test for allergies. Afterward she started on veggies then fruits. Now she has had everything and at 8 months I am starting to wean her off of breastmilk. Everything has worked out well. She hasn't enjoyed juice but has had some water. To God Be the Glory!

I have used your site as a sort of a guideline to feed my 9 month old. I started doing research on feeding her months ago and through talking to pediatricians and nutritionists, I had decided to follow my daughters lead. She eats everything from steak to tandoori chicken to spaghetti and meat sauce and has done so since the 7th month. I am still very hesitant to introduce foods that have a tendency to be highly allergic (such as milk, eggs and seafood) I just don't think it is worth taking a risk just to make my life easier. y daughter Zahra is still breatfed. . .for those working mothers who want to continue breastfeeding- have you tried a breast pump?

My baby is turning 5 months old tomorrow. I started him on semi solids (actually liquids, like dal water, rice water, khichri water etc.)at th eage of 3 and a half months. Since I'm working and my baby is stuck to breast feed. He refused to be fed by bottle or a spoon & katori. His paed. advised me to start giving this food (as mentioned earlier) instead of formula. Now I have slowly graduated to mashed potato, banana, khichri etc. Though he still prefers breast milk over anything else (which I give him from 6 pm to 9 am and once at 1.00 pm), he is slowly taking other food also. I add a little salt in his khichri or yellow butter in the potato. the paed. is of the opinion that one should do it in order to develop the taste. anyone who has had a similar experience ? any suggestions on what other fods can i introduce now that my baby is 5 months.

This is the first site that says you can give a baby cow's milk before 12 months, I find this astonishing and quite worrying. All the advice and information availible strongly reccomends that WAIT until 12 months, a babys system may cope with it, but there is a chace that there may be anadverse reaction, do you want to take that risk???

This is in response to the omment posted by Gulam Younossi, MD. Sir, I have to say that you are very mistaken whatever your credentials may be. I started giving my daughter semi solids from the age of 5 months including pureed fruits, vegetables and rice and pulse water (dal aur chawal ka pani). By the age of 8 months she was eating chapati with dal and vegetables. She was on formula from the very beginning and i took care to give her enough fluids AND milk till the end of first year. By the end of 7th month I had started her fully on cow's milk. And let me tell you - SHE TURNED OUT FINE!! Even her doctor in USA told us she didn't need to take any vitamins etc as she was already on a balanced diet. And because of all the foods i introduced at an early age, she is not a picky eater. She eats everything from Indian cuisine to Italian. She isn't fazed by the spices and still takes more than the required amount of milk and yogurt. Babies can basically adapt themselves to any kind of diet and ofcourse you HAVE to take care not to overburden their systems. But that's it!!
