There are many fad diets in vogue today. They promise to help you lose weight and you end up feeling hungry and deprived most of the time. Moreover, the moment you get back to your normal diet, you see the lost flab stealthily making its way back. Dieting cannot be a hard and fast rule that will work for every individual.

Certain intelligent changes in your lifestyle can help you to shed those stubborn pounds in an effective and safe manner. You can actually overlook the concept of ‘diet’ and make simple modifications in your dietary style and you can effortlessly lose around a pound within a week. Here are some such tips:


Do not Skip Your Breakfast
 

It is a myth that skipping breakfast can help you lose weight. However, people who have lost weight successfully will vouch for the fact that weight loss is successful only when you start your day with a regular breakfast. The body mass index or BMI should be essentially maintained if you want to lose weight. A bowl of whole grain cereal with plenty of fruits and low-fat diary components of your choice can be a great nutritious option. You need the proper fuel to kick-start the day. 


Close your Kitchen at Night
 

You must decide on a time after which you would stop eating. Impulsive snacking and late-night munching habits add to your calories more than you can even imagine. At the most, enjoy yourself with a cup of tea or a small bowl of frozen yogurt if you want to have something after dinner. Make it a point that you will have nothing after brushing your teeth.


Watch out Your Liquid Calories
 

When you are thirsty have water or sprinkle in some citrus juice, or add a small part of 100% fruit juice. A low calorie vegetable fruit juice is a good alternative when you are hungry between meals. Avoid the calories from alcohol, wine and cocktails. 


Choose the Grains
 

Abstain from the refined grains and substitute them with whole grains. This will add the fibers that are essential for the body as well. They can be the breads and pastas made from whole wheat, bran flakes, brown rice and whole-rye crackers. Your kitchen should have plenty of fruits and vegetables. Also, make it a point to have your starters healthy.

Like, a bowl of broth based soup and vegetable salads. This will not only add the essential vitamins, minerals, fibers and phyto-nutrients. You must also trim your portions while having your meal. Do not deprive yourself from your favorite food items. Just check on the contents of what you are having and plan accordingly. It also helps to have a healthy snack before visiting a party or a restaurant. Have plenty of water while having your meals.


Add some Extra Steps
 

Try to be active. Talk over the phone, take your dog for a walk or start marching in between the television commercials. Get yourself a pedometer that can act as a motivator as well as a reminder.
