What Kids Can Learn from MS Dhoni

What Kids Can Learn from MS Dhoni

Parents can learn and teach a lot of good things from successful sportspersons. Here is what parents and kids can learn from one of the most popular Indian cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Cricket lovers fall short of words when it comes to praise the skills of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He is one of the most popular and successful Indian cricketers and captains of Indian national cricket team. For him there is no looking back once started. India has basked in the glory of winning the World Cup and so many other achievements under the leadership and guidance of Dhoni and even kids and parents have many things to learn from him.
Dhoni always guided his team mates like his children. Here are some qualities of Dhoni which you can help your children imbibe and improve your parenting skills.

Encourage Your Child to Move Ahead in Life

Dhoni has never hesitated to take up responsibility for failure of team India's performance, but then he always stressed on moving on. You are a captain of your child’s life. It is your responsibility to help her learn from her mistakes and move ahead in life. Like Dhoni, you too shall spend time strategising future plans for her. You must not allow criticism and disappointment to become a spoil sport for your child.

Teach Your Child to Handle Criticism Positively

Ravi Shastri had once referred to the Indian team as "underdogs", after which team India won the world cup under Dhoni’s leadership. You too must encourage your child to take criticisms positively and work hard with greater determination.

Help Your Child to Stay Calm

Dhoni is well known for his calm and composite nature. No matter what the situation is in the field, he never seems to lose his cool. Dhoni has never resorted to unruly activities and sledging. You must help your child stay calm and ensure she does not feel agitated under stressful situations. This shall help her stay relaxed and develop a better sense of reasoning.

Develop Leadership Qualities in Your Child

Dhoni promotes team bonding and is known for his honesty. To become a team leader it is very important to foster team spirit among the members and for this one must have a positive bent of mind. Teach your child to respect elders and become inspiration for the youngsters. This shall help her emerge victorious as a leader and bring her team in the forefront.

Let Your Child Learn Handling Stress

Research studies have indicated to the fact that children learn to deal with stress from athletes very well. Dhoni in this case can be a perfect example, who always ensures that his team never reels under "the extra pressure". Be it the amateurs or the pros, everyone feels the stress. Difference lies in the way one interprets and handles it.
While worries to some extent do benefit the intellectual competition, you need to make sure it does not have a negative impact on your child’s small mind. Bring up examples to show how Dhoni handles pressure in the field and help her react “coolly” in stressful situations.

Motivate Your Child to Stress on Individuality

Today being "different" actually pays off. You must nurture the individuality in your little one from a very tender age. Dhoni time and again has stressed on the importance of maintaining individuality of his players. Character of a team is shaped by the individual character of the players.
If you want to raise independent, happy and well-rounded kids, you must protect their individuality. Children today are growing up in an era that presents plenty of opportunities. Allow your child to explore the different possibilities, so that she soon becomes aware of her strengths, weaknesses and interests.
While your friends and relatives shower a plenty of "good advices" and tips on how to raise your child, there is no single parenting style that can be labelled as “perfect”. What important is that you understand your child well and develop a close bonding with her. Mentoring her through thick and thins and showering her with affection shall offer her the secure environment she needs for growing up. Nobody can understand your child better than you.

What makes Mahendra Singh Dhoni different from other Indian cricketers? What can children learn from Dhoni? What should parents learn from MS Dhoni? Discuss here.
