Can your Child Dance?

Can your Child Dance?

Here's why you should enroll your child in dance school.

If your child has a ear for music, can move with rhythm and enjoys shaking a leg when her favourite song comes on the telly, you should consider enrolling her in dance school. Here's how it will help her.

Grace

A child that is trained in dance is naturally more graceful than her friends. Picture Hema Malini. She will walk erect, with her heads held high and her back straight.

Confidence

Dance is a group activity, and when an entire group is learning a skill like dancing together, there is bound to be interaction. As a result of this, your child will slowly shed her inhibitions and will learn to be more friendly and gregarious. Being a good dancer will also come in handy when she is an adult, and she will never be too hesitant to get on the dance floor when she is out with friends and family. In addition, in the Indian community there will be various occasions like weddings, where she will be called to dance amongst relatives. Wouldn't you just love for her to shine?
Often dancers are required to perform in front of the general public. Needless to say, a public performance does wonders to boost a child's confidence. Your child will also face stage fright at an early stage, and although she may never completely get rid of this stage fright, she will learn to overcome it. This will help not just in future dance performances, but also in other ventures in her adult life like making a speech to an audience, teaching, making a presentation and so on. Various dance-related career options will also open up to your child. She could become a professional dancer and travel the world holding performances, or she could become a dance teacher or aerobic instructor.

Travel

If your daughter is part of a classical dance troupe, she may be required to travel both within the country and abroad. This will provide her with an excellent opportunity to visit distant places and interact with dancers and various other artisans from around the globe. In fact, by the time your daughter graduates from college and is ready to embark on her career, don't be surprised if she has visited more countries than you have. Travel is a form of education in itself, and performing on stage in various countries, alongside dancers, musicians and artisans from around the world will expose your child to far more culture and knowledge than sitting in a classroom ever could.

Exercise

Dance is a great cardiovascular exercise, and if your child keeps dancing regularly, she will stay slim and in shape for years to come - and, her heart will stay healthy and strong.

Focus

Any activity that your child pursues regularly over an extended period of time will provide her with focus. This focus will help her not only in dance, but in other ventures too. In fact, later on the fact that she is able to show a strong extra-curricular activity on her resume will be a plus point, as it will show a potential employer her ability to stick with something and excel.

unfortunately, in our country, we do not encourage hobbies as they are considered a waste of time.
