Good ideas have been given here. Recently my cousin (whose child is studying in Orchids International, Bangalore) asked for a funky idea for her kid's fancy dress competition. I had suggested Clepatra - the dress was quite easy to make ( we made use of one of cousin's party dresses) and with a bit of make up, our own Cleo was ready! Wish I had come across this post sooner!

I was dressing up my daughter for fancy dress competition, I dressed her up like a pencil. I covered her in a paper of red and black stripes. For the top of the head, I made a cone like hat which was light brown in colour and a black tip as a nib. She did not win a prize unfortunately. She also told a story about a pencil.
