How does whooping cough differ from a normal cough
This disease attacks in an innocuous manner. The incubation period is about 5 to 14 days. Your child will display symptoms like a runny nose, a cough and a slight temperature. This can go on for as long as two weeks. Your child will have severe paroxysms of coughing and may find it difficult to breathe. This is how the disease gets its name as this is when the typical "whoop" occurs.
What is the prevention and treatment of this illness
This disease can be particularly dangerous for children under a year old. Therefore, it is important that your child be inoculated between 3 to 6 months. In rare cases, there is a possibility that bronchitis and pneumonia may develop.
If your child displays the above symptoms, call the doctor immediately. He will probably prescribe antibiotics, which if administered early enough can prevent the development of chest infections. He will also teach you how to tap your child's chest to loosen the phlegm that is accumulating there. Do your best to calm your child when she is coughing. If she is tense, she will find it difficult to breathe. Raise your child's head to make breathing easier. It may help to give your child small amounts of mashed food between coughing fits.

here again, forgot to point out, if you suspect asthma or allergies stay away from medicines which have red, orange, or sunset yellow colour in them and ibuprofen, any coloured sweets/candy. stick with natural colourants. and swap wheat breakfasts with corn/rice etc., can take up to a month to get this out of the childs system. worth the effort!!!! good luck

cough 1; dry persistant cough try, a cough medicine with a decongestant and and oil burner with plain water.
cough 2; cough phelm try childs sudafed (over the counter) age restrict 3ys above and check with paracetamol you can give if temp high.
cough 3; seal/croup cough steam and get medical advice.
cough 4; croup cough/bronchilitis children over one only; 1 teaspoon of honey, disolved in warm water(2" of water) and 1 teaspoon of cider vinigar, mix well, give the child a teaspoon, they wont like it but works.
cough 5; night time cough, dry, wheeze or both or even sick, could be asthma? look for other signs 4 asthma, eg; child cough when running, runs out of beathe quickly, coughs near trees, ? could be an allergy, if so try piriton again children over one or off gp for under 1.
cough 6, only coughs when laid down, has your child stuck something up his nose?
cough 7; sometimes children get reflux, so if the cough is a night or after they have eatan try peptac, again over the counter for age or gp i think under 2 or 3 cannot remember, more likely to b this if child had reflux when they were a baby.
hope this helps, along with elevate bed, or cot with books underneath the legs.
as for the asmatha cough gp don;t like to confirm asthma under 3s, so sometimes u just have keep going back or ask if you could try an inhgaler for 3 weeks to c an improvement.

your children are coughing because their airway is constricted. they need to have a breathing treatment. it is a machine that produces mist and you add the breathing medicine to the machine and the child wears a mask over his or her face and inhales the moist air along with the medication. this machine is called a nebulizer. the name of the breathing medication is called albuterol. a treatment must be given every 4-6 hours for the 1st couple of days. then you can ease off to maybe 3 times a day for 2 weeks. i was once like you all and my babies coughed until i learned what was going on. see your doctor and bring this information to them. if you do not get the machine or medication from your doctor go see a specialist (pulmonary doctor). good luck.
