Parenting a Dyslexic Child



Like normal children even children facing dyslexia can be successful in life. All they need is lots of love and emotional support from their parents.


It is not easily acceptable that the children facing dyslexia disorder can walk on a successful path of life. But it is a fact that many people like Albert Einstein and Graham Bell who are immortal because of their amazing inventions faced the same dyslexia disorder. A little patience and hope will surely help you to bring about a remarkable improvement in your child. It is a little challenging but not impossible to see your child becoming better than normal children. If you wish you can take your child on the new heights where nobody has reached as yet. All you need is that you look at things with a positive attitude and a different perspective.

You give your finger to your child when he or she starts walking. Your hands are still required to take your child ahead on the path of life when facing dyslexia. You may not know that some small things that you can do for you child can create a miracle. Remember, that your child needs nothing more than your time and love.

Dyslexia is not a disorder related to intelligence. In fact children who face dyslexia show higher IQ and can even do much better than normal children. Various studies have proved that dyslexic children are more responsible than normal children and have an ability to excel in field of entrepreneurship. It is also concluded by a research that they can stand out in oral communication skills and problem solving. You can thus polish the skills of your child and make your child a successful individual. Find out ways which will help you cope with a dyslexic child.


Giving more attention and time

It is necessary that you give your complete attention and time to help your child for doing home work. Sit with your child while completing home work and guide throughout rather than losing temper and patience. Your child may be slow in the beginning but regular practice can help increase speed. Let your child take his or her own sweet time to complete home work or to do other things.

Dyslexic children take more time than normal children> to understand things. You can talk to the teachers and trainers to give your children more time to so that they are able to learn things properly and cope with difficult situation. Make your child realize that he or she is as clever as any child and can do better than others. This will help you to positively motivate your child.


Understanding skills of your child

Try to find out the skills of your child and motivate your child to develop them. Let your child spend more time on the activities he likes. Your child should get the scope to explore his or her favourite activities and skills. Give your total support when your child wants to excel in the activities like painting, drawing, dance, singing etc. You may not know, your child may have an ability to become a professional in such fields. Try to find out how your child can take a step ahead to stand out in the field of his or her interest.


Adopting a suitable approach

It is possible that your child may find it easy to learn with a different approach. Try to educate your child using word games, puzzles, audio visual clips etc. You can use toys, pictures, paintings and music to make your child enjoy studies. You can develop a new method to teach your child. Try new methods rather sticking to same techniques used for normal children. You can also use techniques like virtual stimulation and speed reading used specially for treating dyslexic children. Do not try to compare your child with his or her siblings as this may make him mentally weak.


Consulting a doctor

If the situation is going out of your control you can seek advice of doctors and professionals. Try to find any new treatment available for your child with the help of professionals. This will help you to add on to the measures taken by you to help your child.


Meditation and yoga helps

Try to practice meditation and yoga with your child. This will help increase concentration and make mind stable. Make your child understand the benefits of practicing meditation and yoga. You should develop such habits in your child at an early stage. You can also take expert guidance so that you can find which type of yoga or mediation will suit your child. It is scientifically proven that meditation and yoga can help cope up with dyslexia. It will not only help to concentrate on studies but also provide other benefits throughout life.

Accept the challenge put forth by life and teach your child to face it. It may require a little more time, but it will definitely bring about excellent results. Nothing can be as important for your child as your emotional support. Your small steps taken towards the improvement of your child will surely be successful, because nothing is impossible in this world.

parenting a dyslexic seems more challenging as each step is a hurdle. Each new hurdle is to be dealt differently. sometimes I lose hope but sooner i let go of my frustrations and start with a new vigour.

i m really proud of my boy as he is improving every day. I am amazed at his improvements. each day is a new hurdle for him, but hes facing each hurdle happily.
