1 Year Old Toddler's Development (12-Month-Old)

You 1 year old toddler will always keep you on toes with her activities. Take a look at some of the growth and development milestones which you can expect in your 12-month-old toddler.

Your toddler has now become a voyager and is busy discovering everything she comes across. Your 12-month-old is now ready to try the tricycle. Although she is having the best time of her life, it is no doubt very exhausting for you. You also need to be more vigilant towards her and make sure she is not crossing her safety standards. Since you may not want to restrict all her chances of growth and development while playing, it shall be a better idea to child proof the home and keep away the potentially dangerous things.

It is now time to set regular routines, making it easier for her to predict what shall be coming up next. His verbal skills have also matured with time and she is busy showing off her other skills.

Here we shall take a look at some of her growth and developments this month:

1 Year Old Toddler’s Growth and Development

You can now find your little one walking keeping her two legs distanced apart. This is the way she is maintaining his balance. With time she shall become more confidant and her legs shall come closer.

You will find her a lot more inquisitive than before and shall show interest in your activities. She will try to peep into the drawers and cupboards or climb up the tables. She is sure to keep you on toes all the time now.

This is the age when she shall feel the urge to put everything into her mouth. However, do not expect this to improve her eating behaviours though! Things shall certainly get better with time.

Interactive Skills and Play time

Push toys shall be her favourite toys now. You can buy her trolleys and wagons that can be pulled and pushed along. Such toys are also known to have educational sides to them. Toddlers are said to learn the controlling outcomes with these toys.

You need not spend on expensive toys, as your toddler shall be attracted to anything simple and colourful. You may also find her engaged with simple things like paper bags, cardboard boxes, wrapping papers and empty boxes.

As she grows, she develops a strong personality and may sternly say "no" to things that she does not like.

Cuddles and affections are very essential at this age. Make sure to cuddle her once she is awake and before she goes to bed.

Encouraging Self-feeding

Do not worry much about the mess during the meal times. More important is how fast she learns to feed herself. After all you cannot expect table manners from a year old toddler. Put her in a high chair and let her enjoy her food the way she wants.

Your does not know what is safe and what is not. So, you need to keep the fragile and dangerous items away. This is the time when you need to invest in childproofing the house, and things like safety locks and power point covers.

Bath times shall be fun times for him now. He shall love splashing water and playing with the bubbles. Make sure you never keep her unattended and stay by her during the bath times. Plastic and squeaky bath toys such as the ducks shall make bath time all the more fun.

Toddler’s Food and Nutrition

Even though he may appear a fussy eater, you need to incorporate dairy products, meat, fruits, vegetables, cereals and pulses in her daily diet to ensure right growth and development. Even though you may continue with breastfeeding, you must concentrate more on solids from now. She shall need more energy from food to support her increasing activities and growth.

Apart from looking after your toddler, it is also important to take good care of yourself. So, make sure you are not neglecting yourself in this whole process of taking care of your little one.

Which developments can be observed in a year old toddler? How can bath-time be made fun-time for the toddler? How to encourage growth milestones in a toddler? Discuss here.
