It is good if pregnant women and those trying to conceive avoid having large quantities of caffeine. 1-2 cups of coffee are fine during pregnancy though. Risk of still births and miscarriages are high among pregnant coffee drinkers. Coffee is a stimulant, so it raises heart rate and can cause insomnia. Caffeine also contributes to heartburn by stimulating the secretion of stomach acid.It also affects iron absorption capacity. the caffeine also passes into baby´ s blood stream through placenta and it is difficult for him to get it out of the body. so avoiding coffee during pregnancy and breastfeeding is the safest bet.

First of all congrats Devyani. It is good to see your concern about getting off the coffee habit. It is best to avoid coffee. you can do by reducing the number of cups and then cutting all together. Caffeine is also present in other food groups such as tea, soft drinks, energy drinks, chocolate and in some ice cream. so it is better to read the labels before consuming. some drugs for headache, cold and allergy also have caffeine. so there are many unassuming sources of caffeine. It is better to be safe than sorry. Best of Luck for your effort.
