Social Causes:Volunteering Your Time
2008-02-05
Name: Editor Do you take time out of your busy schedule to volunteer for a cause? What are the other ways in which an individual can help in the community? Does helping your neighbours count as social work?

Taking up a cause and working for it is really commendable. But still I believe that one can offer help to others in many other ways too. When we notice our surroundings we see a lot of people seeking help.Once I saw an old man sitting on the pavement seeking help to cross the road.I wondered how everyone was crossing him offering no help.I stood by his side for a few minutes[I was actually hurrying to home with my kid]and as he noticed me standing he came up to me and asked for help. The old person was really hesitant as he did not wanted to be taken as a helpless old man.

I am a housewife. Earlier, I would spend my afternoons watching TV or sleeping. I felt very bored and restless. Then I started going to my son' s school to give tuitions to poor students. It has helped me to conquer my bad habits. I also feel very happy as I am helping someone who genuinely deserves it.

I never thought that helping one' s neighbours qualifies as social work. This is the kind of help we take for granted when it is easily available and do not bother until we genuinely need it. One should remember though, that people do not always ask for help. IT is for you to offer your support when required.

This article is interesting because it talks about things you can actually do. There is no advance preparation required as such. You just decide to begin right from today. The options given are also very sensible. Plus, they are not difficult at all to do. I hope this article inspires people.

RE:saree wearing
There is no such institute for saree wearing, instead you can learn how to drape a saree by watching you tube videos. Don’t waste your money for learning to drape saree. Any beautician can also teach you to drape a saree.... - Manjiri [View Message]

What a query ? you can ask anyone in your family they can guide you, teach you, or you can see on you tube as Saloni rightly suggested. But as per my knowledge there is no institute to teach how to wear saree. But you query gave me new business idea . Great have fun.... - Aditi [View Message]
