Behavioural Problems:Cries a lot before going to school
2012-04-09
Name: tulika dey My 6-yr old child has just started off to class 1. She is introvert, creative and shy natured and rght when she started in playschool used to make a lot of fuss while going to school and cry a lot. Last two years were quite ok with her, but now with the beginning of the session, she has again started crying a lot. Besides, she nevr shows interest for anything in the beginning...no xtra-curriculum but once her inertia is broken, she can adjust...but sometimes it' s just too much...As we both r working, I often carry this guilt and sometimes feel that I overpamper her. She is our only child...Same is with her eating habit...she does not have her tiffin, water n last few days really got dehydrated due to it n might be i became overprotective as a result....Pls advise

hello tulika,
every kid start crying when they start going to school, they resist everthing in the start but the time they start liking the school they cant stay going in school and for dehydration problem you should take extra care of her, give her water after short time period, and make her habit to drink water after some time.

hello tulika,
can understand your possessiveness towards your child because she is only child of you, and its obvious thing happens with only child, its common issue, but you should not possessive towards her, care is different thing.

Hey tulika, don't worry as almost all the kids are like that. They resist everything in the start but then when they start liking it they can't live without it. And for the dehydration please take proper care of her.

Crying in the beginning of the academic year is very common in children and i don't think it is something you should really worry about. Once she starts making friends in her class she will start enjoying and eventually get mixed with them.

Find out the reason, why your kid refuses to go school as she was comfortable for the past two years. Develop a good rapport with your child’s teacher to know completely about your daughter’s activities in school. Also, see if someone is bullying her at school or is there some change recenetly that is affecting her behaviour?

Most of the times we think children are troubling us ,but it is the other way round they are troubled and cannot express their views in words so they become aggressive or cry.
The best sometimes is to completely ignore or if conversation can cure then
find a way to help him express....
More often than not crying is a way to attract attention .
It could be as simple as hunger or a wet nappy or a hurt .
The parent can actually judge when it is genuine or a false alarm ..
First few days at school could be spent crying because there is a simple way out ...cry and you go back to your comfort zone...but firmly this has to be dealt with... and so forth when kids throw public tantrums also ,,they need to be explained at home that this behaviour will not be tolerated ...firmly but not strictly...
