dyslexia is problem in deciphering the text. numerical form is dyscalculia. it is a kind of reading disability. when we learn something we read the text, decipher it and understand it. our brain has two segments left and right. left is 10 to 12% & right is 88 to 90% they work with synchronization with each other. reading and deciphering text is the job of left brain. usually all study material is in the form of text or numbers. right brain can only understand symbols and pictures. dyslexics usually have a very strong photographic memory and very fast right brain. their left brain is unfortunately not as fast as the right. hence in a normal classroom setup they lag behind and are treated as dumb. but their strong visual memory is usually untapped. first of all parents of a dyslexic should understand that it is a minor problem & if dyslexics are taught to use their right brain for learning and memory they can perform much better than normal children. recognizing a dyslexic child is very simple, when a child is reading certain text over and over again and finding difficult to understand but usually is good in remembering events and daily activities he may be dyslexic. try to teach him in pictorial format and activity based and you will be amazed with his performance.
