Do your children like gardening? How old should a child be before introducing him to this activity? What do you think children learn by having their own garden?

I don' t think gardening is an activity you can call safe. Considering the tools being used, you still have to supervise your child. I remember when I was small. My cousin and I were playing in the compound. We were pretending to be gardeners. My cousin stepped on a rake and it pierced his foot. He had to go to the hospital after that. They also gave him a tetanus shot.

I understand your point of view but these things happen. Road accidents kill thousands of people every day yet we still allow our children to use vehicles. Everything can be dangerous. The point is not to mollycoddle the children. If you really want to protect them then put them in a plastic bubble.

I think that this is a good idea. This way parents get to spend time with their children as well as teach them something. Plus, gardening is a safe activity and can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. You can keep an eye on your children and be sure that they are not up to any mischief.

I would love to learn gardening, but my biggest and most terrible worries are my nails. I like to maintain hygiene and dirty nails are a no-no. Thanks.... - Sonia [View Message]
What types of planting pots to use
Hi Sonia. I don’t think it matters much what type of planting pots you use as they all seem to grow plants. As per convenience you can use plastic pots outside the house so that they don’t break. And using pretty but breakable clay pots inside the house will keep be a better choice provided you don’t have any young kids.... - Pooja [View Message]
Using Clay planting pots
Hey Sonia! Whoever told you that using the right type of pots facilitates growth is correct. The clay pots are porous in nature. They allow air to pass freely and allow the roots to breathe freely and also help in providing moisture to the roots, which gets distributed evenly to various parts of the plants. And as we know plants need proper supply of water and air to make ... - Krishna [View Message]

keeping nails clean when gardening
To prevent your nails from getting dirt, why don’t you use gloves? There are plastic gloves that come in the market. You could use them. You know even hair dressers use them when they dye hair. You could use those kinds too. Hope this helps…... - Saurabh [View Message]
