How about -

a) Car Pools even if it means sparing more time. My husband waits back at office for 2 of his colleagues - to drop them on the way home.

b) Two-wheelers, esp. cycles. I'm on a scooter now. Plan to move to Reva to ferry the kids and a bicycle for when I go alone.

c) CFLs - much more energy-efficient than normal bulbs, last much longer.

d) Opening more windows and switching off more fans?

e) Making a list and planning a single trip to cover all the work pending over a few days?

I love nature. I love treks more than parties. Watching the sunrise is much better than staying up late at a party. Breathing the fresh air around the greens is the best deep breathing one can do. Be it underwater or high above in the sky , on mountains, forests or snow, nature is amazing. And I am really hurt to see that we turn a blind eye to nature since we stay in the cities. Our cities would be much better if we had more trees, lesser garbage, clean water, transparent seas. If we actually see we are already in paradise. But we have turned to a dumping bin and are looking for ways to run away from it. We must reclaim our paradise and not let it die under the name of urbanization.

To fight with global warming you can start taking anti global warming drive on your own. Do not buy cans, boxes and containers. Refuse plastic bags. Do not buy more than you need. Promise yourself that you will not buy unnecessary things on impulse. Throw waste in the right place. Separate wet waste and dry waste. It makes a big difference to the person who manages your waste and saves time on separating waste. Think about people, who do not sit in air conditioned offices and indulge in office gossip, but who work in the heat managing your garbage that you may not even be able to be around for more than 5 minutes. Next time you crib about your job this may help. Never think that if you alone did something it is not going to help. It surely will.

We are all complaining about the rising temperatures. Look around and see all those concrete structures. These absorb the heat and make the temperature rise. They block free flow of wind. Though we have taller structures but are we thinking where will the water in these come from? We have depleting ground water resources and everyone needs 24 hours water supply. In some villages women spend half their life just walking up and down to collect water for their families. And little do we worry when we waste water. Many of us have been lucky with the things we have and may be that has made us ignorant of the things we have and use. We are busy shopping in malls, eating out, drinking water from pet bottles and adding to the waste. It takes a little bit to make changes and it is time that we did so or we will have to pay for it.
