Crying & Colic:When to start solid foods?
2002-06-28
Name: Mrs. Wagle My baby girl is 4 months old. She's doing fine as far as weight is concerned; she's breastfed exclusively...no bottles. Right now, it seems like I'm constantly nursing her and that's fine, but I worry that she is never full or satisfied. When should I begin starting a little bit of solid food? I don't want to begin too early, but my fear is she's not getting enough to eat since she literally demands to nurse so much.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Thank you,

Mrs. Wagle

Dear Mrs. Wagle,
since you have said that your child is 4 months old, this is the riht time to start with something apart from breast feeding, but not outside milk. you can introduce the child with some basic food. The receipe is as follows:
take a cup of raw rice and wash it properly with safe drinking water. then let it dry on a clean cotton cloth. once it's completely dry, put it in the kadhai and shallow it till it becomes crispy. then put it in the mixie and make a fine powder of the same. This powder you can store for a week or so. take a spoonful of thei powder and put enough water into it and put it in the pressure cooker. then cook it as you cook your rice. then take it out and then add salt and pure desi ghee and see that there are no clots or granules in the mixture. After remving those clots and granules, try to feed you baby. She will like the different taste. You can give boiled water after some spoons of this meal as the baby will need water in between.
I hope you will try this.
thanks,
smita
