Health Issues:Low weight
2005-11-07
Name: Worried Mom Hello All moms ,
My daughter is 6 months now. But she weighs only 6 kgs so far. She was BF till she was 4months. Since I am working mother I have introduced formula(NAN1) & other semi-solids to her after then.
Please suggest some good ways to increase her weight. She has rice-dal receal with ghee in it, tomato soup, some juice & cerelac invariably in addition to the milk.
Her Ped also suggests me to start the whole milk now, Any comments ? I am very worried for her because she looks like a small baby for her age & I am working too. Experienced moms any advise ?

Hi Mother,
You must not get worried for such things because it is not so good to worry about the weight of baby.

Hi Mom,
You just find the problem and just think in patience you will get solution there only and it would be better do not use any medicines also because it is not so good and you will make her habituate to medicines only.

Hi Mother,
You do not get worried about that because generally children will gain weight and lose their weight and you need to look after them in all aspects also so it would be better you would think about that.

don't worry about your child's weight.Try to incorporate some foods that will help your baby gain weight.Make badam powder and mix it in milk and give twice a day.Give mashed potatoes and make into paste and mix rice and ghee and feed the baby. Also feed bananas into paste form.try and see the difference.

My daughter is quite active. Holds her neck & rolls from back to stomach, Tries to go ahead but has not gone yet. I'm just waiting that too happen. I know it takes time but I am very worried because of her weight, Doc told me more than weight see her activities etc.
my daughter eats rice & moong dal ka cereal made with homemade powder in ghee for lunch. She has soup (toamto/beat/carrot), or juice (apple/mosambi) in the afternoon. Again nanchni kheer or cerelac in the evening as meal. Rest all feeding she takes milk. I would introduce banana & mashed potato now. But i'm lill concerned abt her potty. sometimes she has hard stools.
Ped dint mention abt any oil drops. wud ask next time. Do also let me know after 6th month how much milk vs solids as percentage wise is essention in babies. like is it ok if i reduce one feed of milk with somethin else.
As I read online that milk is the only primary food baby shud be having until 1yr. So want to confirm.
After birth my daughter weight was decreased & gone down to 2.7 kgs then she took time to recover back to her birth weight. Later on it was increasing in gud pace, but again in this month's checkup around 1.75 months I see only 800gms increase.

What u heard is correct. Even the doc told me the same thing. During initial months after weight gain is maximum later on it increases in low pace.
But still I think my daughter had been putting on weight slowly only. What was ur son's birth weight ? My daughter weighted 3 kgs when born. How have u kept his feeding schedule ? I have also started giving iron oral suspension now. Have been giving multivitamin drops too.
Groundnut powder do u mix in milk or something, Somewhere on this board i also read abt giving the dryfuit powder in milk. Do we consult the doc for this ? will that be easy to digest for the baby ?

Honey - some form of honey can contain deadly botulism spores. But they changed the formula for karo syrup because of this, to make it safer - so if you can get karo for constipated babies, that's healthy.

Soap - so long as you only use ordinary bathroom soap, preferably glycerin soap with no added perfume, it is totally safe to use making homemade suppositor... - Suzanne France [View Message]
