Subject:  potty traing without potty!!!
Hi all,
V all moms under go the same prob with this potty stuff. My son used the potty only till 1yr after tht he used to go in his diapers as soon he gets up from bed.
now i just gave up the idea of using the potty as he is 2n1/2 yrs(too old to use a potty) n make make him do it in the toilet itself.U can make him understand like doin it else where is dirty n perhaps all others do in the toilet only.If u have a western toilet u can usea toilet seat(splly for the babies)on ur toilet seat n ask him to go.
After a long traing n loads of effort now my son has learnt tht its a dirty thing to do in front of others n doesnt let me even stand with him, calls me after he flushing it.
hope this idea helps u guys too.
plz send a feedback.
regards,
fathima.

Hi Dimple,
If you leave in US then you could get them at Toys'r us. I forgot the brand name, but they cost about $20. Now they also have potty going Elmo (from seseme street). So if your son likes Elmo, you could try that one.

Good Luck,
Neha

I too am experiencing the same problem with my son. He is 2 years 4 months old. I have been tryin to get him to sit on his pot for almost a year, but whenever I make him sit on the pot he will not do it. Then he won't do it even afterwards. He will cry alot when I make sit on the pot. I try to give him toys, book but nothing works. He will do it standing in one corner. I am really worried how to go about it. So if you get any luck with your baby let me know too.

I've been experiencing the same problem with my 2 years & 3 months son. I've tried nearly all methods to get him to sit on his potty but he won't sit on it. Even if he has to do, it the moment you make him sit on it he cries uncontrllably. I just don't know how to convince him that the pot is do potty. Cos he still doesn't understand the use of the pot. Let me also if you get lucky & your baby learns to use the potty.

Start by taking him to the bathroom the moment he wakes up, thereafter at regular intervals. You got to be strict with him if he complains. Soon after he gets up in the morn, give him a glass of water and put him in his potty maybe with a book in his hand to keep him there. Make him understand that he has to go to the bathroom when you tell him to. I started training my son when he was 8 months old, he too is nearly three and now he tells me when he wants to go to the bathroom!

Hi Sudha,
Try to encourage him to use potty. This how my daughter who is 21/2 was trained. I bought a small potty and kept in family room. I let her experiment with it for couple of days. Gradually she would sit on it and won't use it, but after a week or so, she started using it. I still kept the Potty in family room, until she was completely trained. Reward him with something like stickers or reading a story or something. My daughter loved all the beautiful disney stickers. Also, you could involve him in the process buy letting him choose which potty seat to buy. After my daughter was trained, we bought her favourite Dora toilet seat and put it on the toilet, and she started to use that. It's not a week process. It would take couple of weeks and lot of patience and accidents. If there is an accident don't get angry at him, it's the part of process.
My daughter also liked potty doll. These dolls come with their own small potty and small bottle. Once you feed the doll with the water, you put them on their potty sit and they use the potty. Children could learn from what they see that's approach of this potty dolls. I got that idea from Dr.Phil.
Hope this helps. One more thing at my daughter's playgroup I learned from other moms that boys get trained later than girls.

Good Luck and let me know how it went.

Neha

I would like to know where you can get this potty doll because I agree with you that kids learn things much faster if they can see it. And for potty training one can't actually make them see. My son is 2years & 4 months. I've been trying to potty train him on his potty but he just doesn't sit on it. And if he has to do it & you him make sit on the pot hhe will not do it. So I would like to know where such potty dolls are available whereby he can see & learn to use the pot.

RE:Thumb sucking
Hi there please do not think so much and just visit a chemist and ask for a liquid solution as there is a solution which needs to be applied on the kids thumb so as he tries to suck it there would be bitter taste and by this he will not suck it again.... - Anushree [View Message]

hello pihu,
how you came to know that your daughter suffer from tonsils, you should not put assumption and check and confirm from child specialist then only you should take next step towards surgery.... - raghu [View Message]
