Hi Saru,

Firstly it depends where u live in Germany, if u r in Frankfurt, u get excellent paneer at 2-3 Indian grocery shops there.

Regarding Tofu u get excellent Tofu at Minimal and HL markt, i buy it often.

hope this helps

Subject:  paneer, quark
hi saru & pritty,
yes, probably making it at home is the best answer. i lived in germany for 3 years ages ago, and know they have different dairy products there. one thing that may be close , well, in a pinch, is quark.

quark is a cheese product that is common all over germany. they make EVERYTHING with quark...from cheesecakes to spreads to mixing with fruit, goulasche, etc.

it is a cultured dairy product, thicker than yogurt or sour cream, but not as thick as cream cheese. it does not have curds like cottage cheese. it has a distinctly cheese-like taste to it, too.

it may act as a substitute for paneer, not sure, as i never tried to use it for that. but it does taste good.
:-)
