Peer Pressure:Peer pressure effects
2014-12-11
Name: Sneha Rathod Peer pressure is a necessary evil. Kids are too pressurized to think about right and wrong. Mostly they are attracted towards negative things or things that are forbidden. Peer pressure is prominent in teens when each one tries to belongs to the group. Teens waste their life trying to copy others.

Hi Sneha, very true these days teens easily get influenced in their life which make them fall into various troubles. Its very important to protect them as soon as they start reaching this age.

There are very few kids who take peer pressure in the positive way and work hard to over come it and be successful. It takes a lot of effort to get through the teen phase normally and smoothly and without any problems.

The logic teens use is that their parents don't want them to explore things in their life and they do not understand that what you are doing is for their own good so when you push them away they get attracted.

Peer pressure is definitely a necessary evil but then it depends on how your kid ends up handling it. Teenage is a very risky age and their entire future depends on how well they handle it and cope up with everything.

As a parent it is their duty to explain their children how to handle peer pressure by talking to them and being a little free to them. Be there for your child whenever he needs you and support him or her in everything.

Hi Sneha,
I would agree with you because parents want their kids to be smart and brilliant in front of all the people it is not wrong but pressuring them is not good and they need to do correct work at their age only.

Hi Every one,
As a parent they need not pressure the kids but they have to teach the difference between good and bad or right and wrong then they would take the decision on their own.I have suggested what i Meant.

Peer pressure is unavoidable in my opinion. You simply have to teach kids to cope with it and step in only when necessary. It happens at all ages and it is an experience in itself. After all, it teaches kids about coping with stress, pressure and expectations all around. However, when they become too image conscious or get addicted to bad things, parents will have to step in. It is advisable for parents to be watchful of their young ones without stepping on their toes.

there are two sides a good and a bad. it doesn't mean always that peer groups are bad. child learn many things from peer groups. its not necessary all the time that parents are right in all things and they might not understand their child. so its uopn a child that who who shape himself which is right and which is wrong.

It is not that peer group is bad. However, a child must know how to manage well. he must be knowing the difference between the right and wrong. Once peer pressure develops, we can absolutely do nothing about this thing. THe only thing we can do is just suggest them, which they obviously wouldnt listen.

Well said Sneha!!! Most of the teens waste their life in spending time on copying others like their favorite hero or a sports person. They should be taught in the child hood itself it is fine to have entertainment or enjoying a game but they should not take it as their life. So, it is advisable to be cautious while raising a child.

You can't totally do away with peer pressure. In a way it helps when kids try to get into good colleges. It does come with a lot of cons as mentioned. I believe children get over it and parents are required to intervene when it looks like things are going to go out of hand. In fact, I attended a seminar on peer pressure at my kids' school recently wherein they described the ill effects of it in detail and how parents should handle it as well. Quite a good seminar.
