Crying & Colic:My Baby is a Hungry Soul??
2001-10-10
Name: Pooja Well its my First Baby, who is 17 days old. So I would wish if some one could help me
with my queries.

She is a Night Queen , Awake & Active all night,But she needs feeding all night.
I have noticed that she falls asleep while feeding which most babies do.

I personally feel she does not get good amount of Milk.

Also I have notice that everytime she passes urine , she gets Hungry.
I hope that is normal ???

If some one could guide me if there is some problem with my diet
so that she can be satisfied or I need some guidance on feeding
my Night Queen.

Thanks

Pooja

Dear Pooja,
I've got 8 mths old baby, She had same problem. Then I got one video cassatte and after following those techniqes it help me a lot.
Your baby is too small so it will be very easy for you to follow.
Imagine if your are sleeping in a bed and suddenly you wake up and find yourself in bathroom what will you feel. You will be scared .Isn't it!
Same is with baby. If you rock her,or make her sleep while feeding , or make her sleep in your arms and then put her in her cot and if she wakes up
she will be scared and will cry for her mom's arms or for feeds.
DON'T DO FOLLOWING THINGS
1)Never let her sleep in your arms
2)Never let her sleep while feeding
3)Never rock her to make her sleep
4)Never pick her up if she wakes up at
night she might go back to sleep as
we do.
5)Avoid giving her feed if she can
settle without it.
DO THE FOLLOWING THINGS
1)FEED, PLAY AND SLEEP
2)Feed her properly making sure she
doesn't go to sleep.
3)Play with her and watch for the sign
of tiredness like rubbing eyes.
4)If she gets tired make her sleep
before she gets too tired b'coz
it is very difficult to settle
tired babies.
5)Wrap her up nicely switch on the
lamp and put her in the cot.Let
her learn to sleep by herself.
If she crys leave her for 10-20
minutes and then pick her up and
calm her and put her back to cot
making sure she doesn't go back to
sleep in your arms. Repeat this
till she sleeps and even at night
whenever she wake up in between
and day time too.
During day make room bit dark
so she knows its time to sleep.
It might take time but have
patience. If you have any query regarding this you can e-amil me on

Hi Pooja

Congrats on your little darling. Since the only source of nutrition for your baby is milk I would expect that she would get hungry every time she passes stool or urine.

As for if she is satisfied, well you can tell if she has anywhere between 6 to 10 wet diapers a day. This means she is getting enough fluids in her.

As you said all babies fall asleep when they are drinking milk or being nursed. I used to tickle my son's feet and ear (my doctor told me to try this) to kind of get him to start suckling again. Babies this young drink between 1 to 3 hours. I felt that all I was doing was feeding and changing diapers when my son was born which is really all you do.

Hope this helps you.

Hello,

My son when he was born was just 2.5kg and he lost some weight during his first month. Many babies doen't gain weight during first month, rather lose some weight and start gaining later on. Weight is secondary, what you have look is, is your night queen :-) active or not. If she is active, then things are fine.

Dear Mother,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply which I needed so badly & I was happy to read that I am doing the same nursing & changing diapers of my Sweet Darling whcih most mothers do.

Well yes she wets diapers 10 or some days more also.

One more question..

Like its almost like 19 days now, she was born & her weight was 3 kgs, We went to a specialist to just for checkup & I have found she has not gained enough weight.

I was told by some freinds that she should gain atleast 1kg after 1st month.

Is it ok if she gains less than 1kg this month ???.

Thanks once again caring Mom.
