Subject:  Susten during pregnancy
I have been advised Susten by my doctor, to be taken orally, which I have been doing for almost a week now. However, i read in a website, ndtvdoctor, i think, that taking Susten, will actually affect the growth of the baby. Could anybody clarify this for me. I am really scared, as it is my first one.

Hi Madhu,

Relax !! This hormone is needed at a certain level during the first 3 months. So sometimes if your hormone level is not oK , the doc may prescribe this. I am in my 32 week and had been taking Progestrone ( susten ) vaginally until almost 5 months of pregnancy.

So don't worry - you may have some vaginal discharge and yellow staining but this is due to the pill and not some infection.

All the best,
Minka

Hi, I took progesterone for the 1st 3 months- twice daily and agn when I was travelling during the 5th month. It has nothing to do with the existing hormone level in the body, just that extra progesterone allows the sustenance of your pregnancy. Currently I am in the 35th week and doing fine except for the joint legs due to baby's head's pressure. You take care and don't worry at all! ---Shalini

Dear Madhu,

Don't worry about this pill. Even I took the same medicine for 10 days twice a day. I was adviced to push it in vagina due to lack of growth of the baby. Now I'm in my 34th week and wil be having my baby soon.

So bye and take care......

Rajashree
