There is a baby name section right here on the site. Why not try that? Otherwise just go to google and type Bengali names.

My name is Saurabh and my wife's name is Khushboo the meaning of both names comes out to sweet smell and thus while naming of baby girl we shortlisted 2 names Mehak and Forum again both meaning the same sweet smell and than to finalise one name we zeroed down on Mehak as that name goes well with our surname Mehta and thus we named our Baby as Mehak Mehta.

I think another important point is that you name your child while you are still in the hospital. This is because the hospital sends the birth card to the local municipality for registration. If there is no name on the card, the birth certificate will not have any name either.

We did not allow anybody to interfere at the time of naming our baby. Our baby is called Utkarsh. The word Utkarsh is in Sanskrit and means prosperity. Moreover, it combines my name as well as my husband's name (Asha & Tushar) in it. We did a lot of research in deciding the name of our child.

I never realised that you have to think so much about a name for your baby. I always assumed you just closed your eyes and stuck your finger in a book and chose the name where it landed. All these hints make it seem so complicated. And still you may not get the right name for your baby.

My husband and I both practiced calling out our daughter's name from different rooms of the house. We wanted to see how it sounded. It sounds crazy but this is actually a good idea. My mother in law thought we had gone mad though. However, at least we got the satisfaction of picking a name that was comfortable to say.

I agree with the point about choosing names that are too long. They can be shortened in ways and means that you never even dreamt were possible. Your child can often wind up with a name that sounds ridiculous. I am a teacher in school and some of my students have nicknames that are frightful. One boy used to be called Venky. And now that too has been changed to chicken nugget. And this for a boy who is a pure vegetarian!
