Crying & Colic:Rashes on baby's body
2005-09-21
Name: Buddhiraj Chapalgaonkar Hi,
My 1 and 1/2 month son has rashes on body including face. We consulted 2 doctors in Pune (MH, India), one said it's due to the allergy of Baby oil, powder etc and asked us to stop everything. Second said it's due to hormonal changes in the mother. My son Varad is completely breast fed. Does anyone know why is that or has come across similar problem?

Thanks,
Buddhi

Hi,
Even for my baby also, who is now 2 months old.
My doctor also said the same it is happening because of the harmonal changes and some time it happens because of the milk allergy. Doctor suggested me to apply almond oil or lotion.

Hi Buddhhi,
My son is 9 months but he had same problem. He had no rashes when he was born. But after 4-5 days he started getting rashes allover legs and face. My doc advised me not to use oil .I followed this and all the rashes disappeared.I stopped using baby soap also.Infact i used to apply johnson's baby shampoo on whole body.
You can try this .
take care
jayanti

hi buddhi,

since your son is only 1 and 1/2 months old and is breast fed, you can rule out the possibility of direct food allergy. however it could be an allergic reaction to certain foods that the mother is consuming and this may be affecting your child. it could also be due to oils and creams or powders as suggested by your doctor. suggest that your wife keeps an eye on what she is eating. also avoid the creams and lotions for a while.

Regards,

P Ghosh

It could be either of what the doctors said. I would immediately stop using the baby products - if the rash goes away you have your answer. However, if it continues I would look at your diet and see if there is anything that may be causing the rash. Are you allergic to anything? Are there allergies in your family? If so, you may have to eliminate highly allergic foods from your diet and see what happens.
