True enough; poor eating habits of a mother during pregnancy can affect the baby's weight. Consuming protein-rich diet like daily intake of few almonds and nuts can help increase the infant's muscle mass.

The chances of having low birth weight babies can be reduced if the expectant mother takes proper care during antenatal period. The most important thing any mother can do is to see her doctor on a regular basis. Regular check-ups can ensure that both mother and baby are healthy, growing, and developing properly. Intake of folic acid helps in prevention of birth defects or health problems. Quitting smoking is very helpful. Intake of iron supplements also helps in preventing low birth weight babies.

Subject:  Low birth weight babies care
It is a major cause of concern for mothers with low birth weight babies as such babies have high mortality rates. Such babies do have high risk of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and non-insulin dependent diabetes. The best advice for such babies is to exclusive breastfeed them so that they attain the normal weight. Regular checkups are ne4eded to catch any problems at its initial stage.

Subject:  Low birth weight babies-causes
The normal weight of a newborn baby is 2.8kgs. This weight may fluctuate in babies but if it is less than 2.5 kgs then the baby is said to be underweight. There are several factors for a baby to have low birth weight. Health problems lead to low birth weight babies such as anemia during pregnancy, any other health conditions or infections during pregnancy, complications such as Rh incompatibility or low lying placenta, lack of antenatal care. Even depression and stress can lead to low birth weight babies. history of miscarriages, previous history of low birth weight babies or pre-term delivery also is one of the major causes.
