My baby was born at 36 weeks. He is constantly crying and cranky. It is difficult for me to manage him. I have tried everything for soothing him but without any success. What should I do? Is this normal?

Soothing a premature baby needs patience. See that he is not hungry or wet. Soothe him with music and rocking the baby. A pacifier may also soothe the baby. Keep close body contact with the baby or if this is not possible, swaddle him. This will give him a feeling of security and he will sleep peacefully. Hope this works for you.

Hi Swati, It is perfectly normal for premature babies to cry. The reasons may vary. It can be due to adjustment problems at home which is different from that of hospital.Sleeping and eating habits of premature babies are different and this may be the reason of crankiness. Don´ t worry have patience. Everything will be fine in few weeks.
