Hi Archie
I have 2 questions about my 2 month old baby (born 7 june). Total breast feed.
Birth weight=3.3kg
After 1 month = 4 kg
After 2 mn = 4.7 kg
Urination - atleast 6 times a day
Problem 1)
baby passes stools in small quantities (half to 1 spoonful) very frequently. Color is normal, golden yellow and curdy.
- she has been passing this since sh was a week old
- frequency of stools ranges from 10-25 times in a day
- in 2 months, baby has rarely passed stools in bulk like normally a baby does
- consulted docs, they said it is normal and should go off in 6 weeks or more.
- doc suggested giving Caspa medicine whenever stools increase or baby seems colic
- caspa seems to reduce the frequency of stools
- my diet contains 4 glasses milk in day, daily in breakfast, 3 roti+veg+daal+curd+rice in lunch/dinner, evening snacks include some of these - Real Active juice/marie biscuits/salad/fruits (no mangoes)/Gond laddoo
Question-
Is this normal? Do i need to change my diet? How long shd this go, it is already more than 6 weeks.
Problem 2)
The common problem of crying at night. I am seeking suggestion from you because I have tried out everything. Elders say she is hungry, i want to try out more before offerring bottle.
- she is fine during the day, plays in evening
- feeds after apprx 3 hrs. I hv kept her on demand feeding
- starts crying around 7-8 pm, typically after she has had a feed and played for a while
- when feed is offerred as she is crying, she suckles for a minute or 2, then starts pulling the breast franctically, leaves it and cries, holds it again, sucks for 3-4 seconds and cries loudly again. This goes on.
- Offered another breast but same thing happens
- we rock her in different positions, sing songs, put in swing, tried things thinking she is cold/hot, but she keeps crying
- assuming she is colic, i hv also tried giving her Caspa 3-4 times. I dont recollect what exactly was the response, but i feel it hasnt worked.
- i feel she has problems in falling asleep, because i have seen that onc she falls asleep, she sleeps for 3 hrs (sometimes as long as 5 hrs)
- i have doubts because though she sleeps for 3+ hours, this happens after 3-4 attempts of sleep. Means, we rock has and she sleeps but wakes up again after few minutes. Then same thing happens- crying.
- i hv observed this behavior in the day time also - but rarely
- my breasts are soft in evening and i doubt that milk is insufficient because baby keeps feeding frequently in small qualtities during the crying-session
- tried expressing to check milk supply during evenings, i could see one single spray of milk throwing out after pressing (from both breasts)
- this is my second baby. I have had insifficient milk problem during my first baby
- we tried feeding her formula once with bowl and spoon. She did not take much. Also, she was tired of crying by then. She did cry a for a little while after that and went to sleep.
Question
Is she crying because she is hungry or there is another reason?
Please suggest.
Thanks
anu
