May be. but it´ s a contributing factor. too much computing damages the eyes. numerus studies have proven this. we have put that special screen on our pc. but it only minimises the glare, not eliminates. and there´ s more. sonu doesn´ t read at all. all he talks about are those games. you don´ t know, it becomes like an obsession with them. there are better things in life to be obsessed with than shooting figurines and collecting points.

Are you sure that he´ s only playing computer games? I don´ t think playing games gives you glasses. It´ s because of a poor-quality monitor that gives off too much glare.. Also, genetics is responsible. Do you have glasses? I have been playing for so many years and I have perfect 20-20 vision...

Gamer full time I guess you must be a game tester. Unfortunately thats one of the most stressful parts of game design. Everyone wants to rush QA and testing to ensure that the launch date is right. Get it wrong and you may have a bug ridden game. Do it right and find all the bugs and its still back to the drawing board for the game... go figure

that´ s a boring job. you arent making the world better in any way. and no creativity involved. if you had been creating those games, it would have been different. and god knows what it´ s doing to your health. 16 hours of work a day! you want an early death or what? you wont even have time to enjoy that 20k pay packet!

Guys, compare the accpeted bad effects of gaming addictions against their advantages. The harm surely outweigh the benefits

I think games are just another form of entertainment, like television. And just like television it depends on what you watch the effect you choose to let it have you on your lives. I play games occasionally but I don' t think its turned me lazy.

You guys are kidding me... I' m sure none of you has ever played a real game in his life since the time of those stupid Mario-type games.. Gaming has really made some great advances..

Nobody ever spoke anything about high-end simulations (read games) help soldiers, pilots, etc. learn about sophisticated machinery and situations, which leads to a huge saving in costs and money. For example, flying a Sukhoi can be expensive and also dangerous if you don' t know how to. But if you have a good simulation that allows you to fly it, it really is far better... Games like Flight Simulator are very interesting and complex.

I see an interesting debate raging here. I just happen to chance upon this site. Games are like everything else in this world used in excess they can be detrimental both physically and psychologically. Used in the right amount they are scientifically proven to help. Games are great training devices. But excessive gaming can also lead to chronic eye fatigue to name a few. Games are rated these days so as long as the right target audience is playing the right game shouldn´ t be too much of a problem. So game on people... responsibly.

Over usage of computers is bad for the eyes and the muscles. Working people cannot avoid it. But why subject children to it? The fast movements, the jazzy colors and the sound effects can all have a detrimental effect on the senses. It is parents' fault if they don' t teach their childrne to amuse themselves with outdoor and board games, and intelligent puzzles.

I agree totally with Ketan. While there may be nothing wrong with either computer games or children playing them per se, in reality, the way things stand, they are definetly harmful.

Not only is there an absolute lack of balance in the way the advantage sof gaming are usually trumpeted, the addicitve nature of these games means that children - and adults - spend an abominable amoutn of time on them.

Time that could easily be put to better use. Forget studies, and other mental activities such as reading, the fact that today children who are addicted to computer games find no time to go out and play is itself suffecient to overweigh any amount of good that they can do.

Subject:  Computer Games are Great!
C' mon, I don' t know why we expect video games to be very useful. They may help develop hand-to-eye coordination skills, reflexes, and probably analytical skills, but why don' t we admit on one thing - they are real fun! Why don' t we question movies or music or even some of our books to ask whether we gain anything from them? Computer games or any form of entertainment are harmless as long as you don' t get addicted to them....

And everybody knows that the computer gaming industry is bigger than the movie industry...

Go to the Pubmed site or run a search on Google.
You will find enough research reports to corroborate that overexposure to destructive and defeatist lyrics in songs incite violence and depression among teens. You are looking only at the enjoyment and entertainment aspect. In the long run, many computer games can impair an adolescent´ s life. I do not generalise, there may be a few that have certain benefits. As for your silly and irrelevant point on books, I have already stated that sports are of utmost importance. Computer games are merely a weakness. Like all smokers defend their addiction, you will defend yours.

I´ m curious to know the studies that show lyrics from rap and rock songs are harmful!!!

Again, there is an assumption that computer games is a substitute for sports. Who said so? The same way, if a person read books all day without playing sports, he would be as likely to suffer from poor health as a person who plays computer games.

Subject:  questioning books and music
Research has proved beyond doubt that music helps. Of course, violent lyrics in rap and rock songs are harmful. And there is no comparison between computers and books. The latter is sacred! Even if they are just for entertainment, the disadvantages are just too high in computer games. they are violent, straining and take childrne away from real sports. they are a poor substitute for games. i think they should be banned. human beings always end up being exploited for commercial purposes.
