Intelligent Child:Emotional Intelligence and Your Child

Name: Editor Has EQ played a more significant role in your life than IQ? Do your children have trouble giving voice to their feelings? Do you feel EQ should be nurtured in regular course curriculum in school?

Emotional quotient is something that every child should possess. However, it is the responsibility of the parents to ensure that their child is equipped to handle the stress of life. It is not something you can leave to your child' s teachers and assume will be taken care of.

Subject:  Makes sense
I think the concept of EQ makes sense. A child who is happy and well adjusted will obviously fare better in his life than one who has not had these benefits. We are more interested in raising our children nowadays to make them super intelligent. But this is of no use if they cannot handle a simple problem.

Subject:  Fancy name
I think emotional quotient is just a fancy name. It is another one of those fads where if a child cannot cope, you mollycoddle him and say ' Oh its not your fault, your parents did not do their best to help you' . We are raising a bunch of whining sissies. I say its all a bunch of nonsense.

RE:Reading Newspapers
How old is your kid as it depends on the age of the child and one cannot force a five year old to read the newspaper so if your child is above ten years then yes you should ask him or her to read the newspaper daily.... - Aditi [View Message]
RE:Reading Newspapers
I think you should not force a child to read a newspaper as this is not necessary at all and one must avoid it so please do not force your child and make sure you let enjoy your child in what he is happy in doing.... - Anju [View Message]
