Waiting to try:Labour
2001-02-20
Name: Namitha

I had a difficult 8th month with high BP and constant monitoring by ultrasound and bed rest etc. I had gone to my parents house then, and as is the tradition I had many visitors, each one of them plying me with goodies and giving me pep talks and telling me incidents in their lives. Everybody has some incident or the other to relate. The main message was that things will be ok and you have our support. I can say it really helped to pep up my spirits. Eventually, the baby came 3 weeks early and I did not have time to worry about pains. WIth abt 3hrs of labour, I spent only 5 minutes in the delivery room. So I guess I was lucky. Think positive thoughts, meet people who are a good influence, practical without inducing fear in you. Be aware of the science of what will go on, but dont delve too deep into it during pregnancy at least. And get the support of your family. I had a wonderful OBG for seven months who was more like a psychologist. That helped a lot too. It was our joke that she would keep asking me what my latest worry was, and miraculously after spending half an hour with her, it disappeared. Also try not to switch doctors at a later stage, since most doctors have their own system and standards of doing things and sometimes require tests to be repeated. Eventually with hindsight I feel a dragon of a doctor is sometimes better than an over-friendly one.
