Hi Yr,

good to know that you will try to stay calm .. all i can tell you is that if you keep getting angry with him .... he will retaliate even more .... he will make sure that he does not eat / drink so that he can wind you up ...but dont worry , this is the time to test your patience in life ...just put your self in his position & i am sure you wouldn,t want someone to do that to you.

ok dont buy french fries ...make them at home...

distract him like put his favourite game / toy in front when you are feeding...
try to let him feed himself ... you dont force it
when he feels ignored he probably will eat it.
also sit together , put him in a highchair 7 just put his palte in front of him ...make sure you give him plastic cutlery so taht he can learn how to eat himself .....this is what i used to do with my son

i am sure he will come around ...
pls never ever hit/ shake your child for not eating or listeneing to you as it has a very bad effect on them ...these are his developmental years if you behave impatiently with him ...that is the sort of person he will become as welll..
choice is yours.

dear AB,
thanks once again 4 ur reply. i shall definitely try what u said. what u said is very true. becoz my son was not eating properly for days together, i got very irritated and hit him so hard and he started behaving the same way. i'm now so sad for what i did and i'll never do it again. from past few days his habits has improved quite a lot. might be becoz now that his viral has come down and he must be getting little better with his taste.

Hi ,
My son is 2yrs 5mths & he is doing exactly the same thing ....i think they just go thru phases when the eating just drops(i know as a parent it is very difficult to understand that as you cant bear that your child has not eaten ) ....try to distract him when you are feeding him .....give him what ever he liks as he still needs to eat something .....
can you pls give me the name of the toni that the doc has given you so that i give it to my son......lets see if it works on him
take care & dont worry .....he will get hungry eventually

dear AB,
felt very nice when i read ur mail. i felt so comfortable when i read it. ya..i think first thing i need to change is to stop getting angry with him. he likes french fries.i shall buy some french fries on my way back. hopefully he'll have. i shall also try if i can get Pediasure which i've read is very good for kids and most kids will like it and it's very healthy. but i'm not sure if i get it here in bangalore. i'll definitely try. even u try giving it to ur kid. i think its'a powder to be mixed in milk, i should check what it is exactly.i like that idea of urs that we should eat together at home so that he'l have along with us. but usually each one of us have a diff. times. but i'll for his sake to have together.i'm waiting for ur reply.

i feel really bad for you...... trust me i know how it feels. ...i am sorry to hear that he has now got a viral also.
listen you need to do the following things.
first of all you need to calm down & take some rest yourselves.stressing yourself out willnot help it.

secondly...go easy on your son.

Even as adults when we get fever we dont eat ...& as children it's worse

give him lots of fluids as they need this when they get sick ( as they should not get de-hydrated)
give him juice , ribena ( sqaushes) whatever he likes ( no coke)

Does he like french fries ....make some at home & give him..
try to give him just plain roti ...
does he like chicken ...give him chicken nuggets
try to put some chaat masala on food ...that you give him..
.try to give him some rice *(pereferable boiled)

force feed him & if he doesn't & once he gets the taste ...he might eat...but if he doesnt, dont force him or get angry with him...

eat in front of him as a family so that he feels like putting some in his mouth...

as an incentive / reward for eating food tell him you willgive him some chocolate if need be .....& then give him some ...no problem
it will atleast give hime sugar....

pls work hrd on him ...i'm sure you already are ...but just that bit extra might make the diffrence...
pls let me know if anything worked...
I am worried about you & him....go to the doc if it carries on....

dear AB,
thank u for ur reply. i'm very worried becoz my son has not been eating properly since last 3-4 months and now that he had viral fever it's become even more worst. doc has prescribed to give him 'Zevit' and 'Ferium'(iron tonic). it's going to be 5 days but still he's not feeling hungry. i do give him what he likes but most of the times he refuses to even taste the food.. i'm going mad...
