Working Mother:When a Working Woman is Pregnant

Was your employer supportive when you informed the office about your pregnancy? What benefits were you entitled to? Have you ever heard of the Maternity Benefits Act?

Hi,

Well as far as i am aware women are entitled for 12 weeks of maternity leave as per the 1961 act.... & the same will hopefully will get amended & extended in future as per the recommendation in 2007.

Well i have been a lil fortunate, i have 3 months of maternity leave as per my company policy & i can extend it to another month of unpaid leave... which i believe everyone will agree is absolutely required......besides which my company is letting me work from home for a month before my due date :)

As per my knowledge under Maternity Benefit Act minimum 12 weeks maternity leave is allowed. It also says on medical grounds additional upto 4 weeks leave can be granted.

Please check the provision and get the article amended accordingly.

Thanks

With all this talk of maternity leave for women, why can' t we have leave for fathers too. After all, do they not also need time to spend with their children? I would like to see men also be allowed to take some time off to look after their children and be with their wives.

The laws may be there but I do not think that this works. In many companies, they will not give you that much leave. There are many people vying for the same job so it does not really matter if you are there or not. They can afford to let you walk out.

I was not aware that this Maternity benefits act existed. When I was pregnant, my company took good care of me. They gave me three months maternity leave and allowed me to go home little early if I felt sick. I am no longer working for them but I will never forget how nice they were to me.
