Shy Kids:How do I deal with my child?
2001-02-16
Name: suman I have a very peculiar problem due to the shifts in my daughters moods. She is very quiet and shy sometimes and she is extremely boisterous on other days. She throws a tantrum at the drop of a hat. Is this something special to my three-year old child. Please give some advise?

Most parents think it is peculiar to their child. But temper tantrums are common to children all over the world. Do not feel dejected. You should not lose control over yourself.

Parents have to try the `mix and match method. Sometime you must cajole the child, sometimes be strict in your tone. Sometimes just do not pay attention. It has to be a trial and error method. Do not take things very seriously. Or your child will manipulate you.

PATIENCE is the keyword...which most of us lack!A tantrum is a way for asking notice...give the child some extra attention, firlmly yet affectionately!

Parents, poorr parents, they have to just get used to temper tantrums of children, not just at the young age , but also later in life. One has to just live in vain hope that your child will understand the ways of the world sometimes....

Dear Suman and Angela,
Dont worry. The age of 2 to 5 years is normally extremely difficult for a child.
They learn many things and they are also
experimenting and trying out many things
especially ways to get attention of their parents by throwing tantrums
or in a nice way by talking smartly or sometimes
over confidently.
By the time they are 6 - 7 years , they mature and
learn to behave. Just have patience and tell them
they are doing the wrong thing by screaming and crying.
bye.
All the best

RE:Shyness right or wrong?
Hello dear this is really nothing to worry as its very common and you should not take this matter as a big concern as kids at this age are normally shy and they do not like meeting new people infact they want only their friends and all with them.... - Anita [View Message]
RE:Shyness right or wrong?
According to me you should take your child to a counselor and ask her what is the exact problem as this is not common and you should get into it as soon as possible and understand the real reason behind the same, please do not ignore this its a request.... - Anaida [View Message]
