All religions have their own particular days that are considered more auspicious. For Hindus, this is a day for buying things, taking decisions, etc. In this case, it is simply being more devoted than usual.

I knew about the practice of fasting during Ramzan but I did not know this night existed. Although I think that it is a little strange to suggest that one night can make up for an entire lifetime.

Hi Jeevan, I think you are a bit confused. Laylat al-Qadr does not mean that you should not be devoted during the rest of the year. It just means that this night is special and God recognises your prayers more at this time.
