My baby has blocked tear ducts. The tears formed in the eyes and roll down the cheeks. Now I have noticed an infection in the eyes and this is due to blocked tear ducts. The tears are unable to drain away through the tear duct into the nose and her eyes remain constantly wet. I am worried that this will affect the eyesight.

Newborns usually take two weeks from birth for their tear ducts to fully function. Mostly these are fully functional by the age of twelve months. Clean the excess tears and any sticky discharge regularly with a damp cloth.Warm compresses and gentle massages applied to the area usually help open them up. If there is white or yellow discharge from the eyes or swelling or redness around the tear duct, then you need to consult a pediatrician who will prescribe antibiotics to clear the infection.

Newborns eyes are very delicate and they need proper care to keep them clean and healthy. the best way to clean is by using a soft washcloth or a cotton ball soaked in warm water. cleanse your baby’s eyes carefully in the following way. Dampen a cloth or cotton ball with a little bit of warm water. gently wipe the eyes from the inside to the outside corners. Use a different wash cloth or a new cotton ball for each eye.
