Hi,

My daughter is 2 yrs old and she already had 2 ear infections in the 2 winters so far(We live in US). I was planning to send her to a playgroup/day-care for half a day during summer . Is it possible to get ear infections in summer too. I heard children who go to these playgroups catch infections faster..Any opinions from parents of kids who goes to playschool/day-care would be helpful.

Hi,
I just thought I'd let u know that kids who drink liquids while lying down/sleeping have been shown to be more prone to ear infections. Also don't put water inside their ears, i.e. don't wash inside while bathing. Just wipe inside the ears with a moist cotton swab but NEVER insert in the ear canal.
Unfortunately, some kids are just more prone to these infections- their ear canals are very narrow( FYI, all kids have narrower ear canals than adults). If any antibiotics are prescribed, make sure to complete the whole course & go back for a recall visit to make sure the ears are clear of all fluid & inflamation.
My son suffers from this problem too, so I can fully empathize.

hi,
i know what you´re going through my son is two and he has had ear infections about three times aldready.We live in iceland,and i think this is related to the weather .The doctors here insist it is not contagious and yes you can get ear infections in summer too.Dont keep your child from playschool ,my son has just started school and i think it will be great for him.
