Dhanteras is one of the days of Diwali. there are many legends associated with this festival. one legend has it that son of Him was to die on 4th day of his marriage. on 4th day, his wife knowing of his fate did not let him sleep and placed all dazzling things at the door of the palace. the palace was illuminated and he was blocked with gold coins, she sung hymns and songs to keep him awake. When yama came, he was dazzled and could not enter the room because of the illumination. he could not take the life of the prince thus he was saved. there' s another legend of Samudramanthan behind dhanteras celebrations.
