parts of the baby is measured through sound waves during ultrasound. These inlude the head circumference, circumference of the abdomen and the length of femur. All these help to determine the actual growth of the foetus whether the development is normal or not.

Ultrasound scans is a non-invasive way of checking on the anomalies. It uses high frequency sound waves and then receives them back. This is then interpreted on the screen. What your doctor is recording is the size of the parts of the baby.
